GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES

General Function

Patrols assigned campus and enforce state laws and college policies to provide a safe environment for students and employees.


This is a pool position. The hiring manager will reach out to candidates if a position becomes available from April 2023 to October 2023.


Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
Hours per week: May work up to 20 hours per week


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Regularly patrols assigned campus’ parking lots and deter criminal activity and disturbances.
2. Responds to reported situations including but not limited to alarms, accidents, injuries, crimes and disturbances to complete investigations and file reports.
3. Provides notice to those students who are violating college policies and rules. Notifies the appropriate administrator if the behavior continues or is severe enough to warrant disciplinary action. Completes college reports to document action taken.
4. Enforces the laws and ordinances of the United States, North Carolina, Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte when appropriate.
5. Responds to routine requests for service and assistance from campus faculty, staff, students and visitors.
6. Directs traffic or provide traffic control on city streets at intersections close to campus when needed to facilitate the safe flow of traffic or pedestrians through campus.
7. Assists college and private security staff on campus with any other duties or responsibilities as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics

Knowledge of college policies and Student Code of Conduct
Knowledge of federal and state laws as well as county and city ordinances
Ability to make appropriate judgment in responding to situations, including but not limited to emergencies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships on campus and in the community.
Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or GED and 1 year of full time recent law enforcement experience.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a patrol or special events environment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary for this position is $42.00/hr . Classification type is Classified. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
