Hiawathaland Transit is seeking a full-time driver in Goodhue County (Cannon Falls, Kenyon, Pine Island, and Zumbrota). (Full Position Description will be shared with applicants selected for in-person interviews; to request full description, call 507-316-0610.)

Start at $20/hour if you already have a Class C CDL and Passenger Endorsement (PE); otherwise, start at $19/hour. Will primarily drive bus in the area where hired, but may occasionally be assigned to another city/community.

This full-time position requires 4 workdays each week with work hours ranging from 6:30am-5:00pm (8.5-10 hour shifts). Weekly schedule varies. No Saturdays, Sundays or major holidays. Total of 34-40 hours per week. During interview, details regarding scheduling will be discussed.

Hiawathaland Public Transportation is administered by Three Rivers Community Action, Inc., a non-profit agency providing economic opportunities that strengthen individuals, families and communities in southeastern Minnesota.

Job offers are contingent on a reference check; a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review; a criminal background check with fingerprinting through the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS); a Medical Examiners Certificate ("med card"); and a pre-employment DOT drug test. Employees in this position are subject to random and reasonable suspicion DOT drug and alcohol testing throughout their employment. If you do not have a CDL and Passenger Endorsement, a permit is required before your start date.

Drivers in the Goodhue County area often transport children in the Agency's Head Start program. Due to rules published by the Federal Office of Head Start, all Bus Drivers who may transport children in the Head Start program are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 unless a medical/disability or religious exemption/accommodation is approved in which case weekly testing is required.

Qualifications to be Hired:

  • Must have held a valid driver s license for at least 3 years
  • Acceptable driving record (including, but not limited to, no more than 1 moving violation in the previous 12-months)
  • Acceptable criminal background check (including, but not limited to, no felony convictions)
  • Ability to read, write and speak English to communicate effectively with passengers, dispatchers and in emergency situations

NOTE: If position is offered to and accepted by applicant, the Agency will provide resources to assist applicant in obtaining a Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) and a Medical Examiners Certificate ( Medical Card ) prior to their first day of employment. Employment will not begin until both are obtained.

  • Paid training is provided to assist new hires in obtaining CDL and Passenger Endorsement; must obtain CDL and Passenger Endorsement within 90 days of start date

Qualifications For Ongoing Employment:

  • Operate vehicles safely and efficiently
  • Effectively operate the handicapped lift and security devices
  • Follow all state and highway safety rules and regulations
  • Safely and properly use electronic tablet
  • Accurately complete Daily Maintenance Checks (Pre-Trip/Post-Trip Inspections)
  • Maintain accurate records and log sheets
  • Pass Driver Training on these topics:
    • Passenger Assistance
    • Maltreatment Awareness
    • Defensive Driving
    • First Aid/CPR
    • Child Passenger Safety
