Position Summary

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring the proper standards are followed in the production of material in the fabrication shop according the shop drawings and the American Welding Society. This position is deemed safety sensitive due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee s co-workers, and/or the public at large.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects all fabrication jobs to maintain the quality levels of work produced in accordance with applicable codes and standards and Prospect Steel QC procedures.
  • Travels to subcontracts to inspect jobs for proper standards when required.
  • Prepares daily inspection reports.
  • Monitor records on all shop welders with their level of certification and monitor daily rod use.
  • Assist in setting up, monitor and maintain welding procedures, bolting procedures and painting procedures required for projects.
  • Provide feedback on questions related to qualify and project requirements from shop employees.
  • The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent with an Associates Degree from a college or trade school and/or a minimum of 3 years experience in a steel fabrication shop. Previous fitting and welding experience is desirable. Must have excellent mathematical skills. Must be able to read and understand blueprints and shop drawings and pass an inspector test. AWS certified welding inspector, ASNT level-II certification, or SSPC/NACE certification is desirable, but not required.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift 100 lbs. frequently and be able to climb 25 ft. Must have ability to bend, stoop, push and pull frequently. Requires occasional travel with overnight stays. Exposure to temperature fluctuations and loud work environment. Overtime and weekend work may be required. All of the physical demands listed are essential functions.
