Job description
Position Overview: Responsible for the direction of daily activities within the receiving department. The Receiving Supervisor’s responsibilities include supervising material handlers, coordinating logistical processes, ensuring quality of goods, and preparing relevant documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine receiving priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods.
  • Oversees incoming shipment activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
  • Reconciles/coordinates work order and purchase order receipt order variances.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining accuracy in location and count.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of employees.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely processing of paperwork by office personnel.
  • Enforce company safety rules to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure accurate inventory practices consistent with good inventory management.
  • Implement and monitor any new procedures that will increase efficiency, safety or cost effectiveness.
  • Monitor attendance and productivity of personnel in the department.
  • Relay all pertinent information to second and third shift supervisors.
  • Ensure accurate and timely receipts of incoming material in receiving department.
  • Ensure all incoming chemicals are properly labeled per the hazardous material data sheets.
  • Prepares composite reports from individual reports of employees.
  • Schedule work assignments for personnel in the department.
  • Perform root cause analysis to resolve customer complaints.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • High sense of urgency.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
