MISSION STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:
General Statement of Duties: Recreation Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising recreation programs and state licensed day camp for the Eaton Area Park
& Recreation District.
Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Recreation Division Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: Part Time – Camp Counselors, Camp Leads, and contracted program individuals.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $45,000-55,000 Full-Time Exempt
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- General o Under the direction of the Recreation Division Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising recreation programs and state licensed day camp for the Eaton Area Park and Recreation District.
Recreation programs include youth, adult and senior general recreation courses and classes and Eaton’s Explorers. o Assists with special events and sponsorships. o Assists with the preparing and administering individual program or facility budgets; monitor expenditures and payroll in accordance with established procedures. o Provide clerical support, program registration, answer telephones, and maintain correspondence with other divisions or District programs; may respond to public inquiries about the facility. o Ability to serve as Manager on Duty and Manager on Call for the Eaton Area Community
Center. o May open and close the operations of the Community Center as needed. o May perform emergency custodial maintenance work. Set up tables, sports equipment, chairs, and bleachers. May provide room set ups for facility rentals as needed. o Assists with hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating part-time and seasonal personnel; assigns work, as necessary. o Schedule recreation facilities and supervise the condition of facilities. o Coordinate and develop relationships with various community agencies.
COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY TRUST
o Conduct and attend a variety of training seminars, staff meetings, clinics, and community meetings. o Prepares statistical reports on a monthly basis and prepares data and narrative for inclusion in annual reports. o Represents the District at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies. o Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Special Interest Programs o Assists with evaluating and creating new programs and events for the District. o Assists Recreation Division Supervisor in planning, organizing, developing, scheduling, and evaluating recreation programs that are conducted by EAPRD staff or contractors.
Coordinate volunteer requests from the community; recruit, train, and supervise volunteers which may include camp counselors. o Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation programs.
- State Licensed Day Camp (Eaton’s Explorers) o Supervision of State-Licensed programs including coordination of staff and participants in daily activities. o Provides direction to camp staff which may include daily tasks, assignments, evaluations, and provides feedback. o May use knowledge and experience to modify class activities for various participant skill levels. o May serve as opening or closing staff members for State-Licensed program. o Remains composed and makes sound judgements in emergency or non-emergency situations. o Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR, or other medical attention as needed, and completes incident reports. MUST be certified to administer medication per State Licensing regulations. o Provides exceptional guest service to all participants. o Responds to information requests, comments, and complaints from participants. o Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies, and incidents to supervisory staff as needed. o Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests. o Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
o Two to Three years’ experience in leadership role with similar programming; degree in Recreation, Elementary Education, Outdoor Education, or similar degree. o Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. o Must be 21 years of age.
- Have the ability to become certified within 45 days of employment for the Camp Director
Certification through the Colorado SHINES program and or already certified. o Camp Director Certification Requirements:
▪ Three months of verifiable education or training in work with school-age children in such areas as recreation, education, scouting or 4-H; and must have completed at least one of the following qualifications:
- A four (4) year college degree with a major such as recreation, outdoor education, education with a specialist in art, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human service field; or
- Two years of college training and six (6) months (910) hours of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time, paid or volunteer, experience, since attaining the age of eighteen (18) in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children; or
▪ Three years (5460 hours) of satisfactory and verifiable full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer, experience and one of the following qualifications:
- Complete six semester hours, or nine quarter hours in course work from a regionally accredited college or university; or o 40 clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children and the department- approved courses in injury prevention, and playground safety for School-
Aged Child Care Centers within the first nine months of employment. Requires extensive experience in state and county child care licensing and the ability to stay up to date with current laws, rules, and regulations.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: o Considerable knowledge of developing and administering recreation programs; ability to perform all duties in the absence of supervision. o Ability to work under stressful situations and conditions; ability to stay calm; must have excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. o Ability to prepare and administer budget, maintain records, and prepare reports. o Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and some holidays. o Ability to participate in Eaton’s Explorers and recreation activities; ability to organize and direct recreation programs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Considerable knowledge of the current principles, practices, teaching methods, and techniques specific to planning and teaching the program of instruction in areas of expertise.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Ability to perform all duties in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to work under stressful situations and conditions; ability to stay calm; must have excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt class activities to meet a wide variety of participant skill levels.
- Ability to maintain certifications.
- Ability to plan and organize safe and effective class curriculum and activities. Ability to effectively present class curriculum, demonstrate proper techniques, and respond to questions specific to the program of instruction.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service in a fast paced, chaotic environment to a diverse guest population.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and
EAPRD / EACC staff. Including the ability to follow directions and demonstrate professional behavior.
- Ability to communicate, follow and enforce all rules, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to recognize safety hazards and sanitation issues and rectify the situation independently or notify supervisors.
- Ability to complete and maintain well organized daily records, logs, and incident reports.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Bilingual in Spanish desired.
- Ability to operate all assigned equipment properly and safely; ability to set up, maintain, and tear down activity related equipment.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various application programs including recreation related specialty software applications (ActiveNet).
- This position is subject to the Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program. This includes pre- employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Personal computer, including word processing software; calculator; copy, scan, and fax machine; phone; portable radio; automobile; various sports equipment used in recreation programs.
