The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Greene Science Center on Columbia’s Manhattanville campus, the state-of-the-art building offers an environment where the highest level of scholarly scientific research takes place on a daily basis, with the benefit of being located in the heart of New York, one of the world’s most vibrant and culturally rich cities.

The Gadagkar Lab, which uses advanced electrophysiology and imaging to study the songbird brain in the Zuckerman Institute at Columbia University, is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Research Staff Assistant.

This is a full-time grant-funded role.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under the direction of the PI, assist with in-vivo experiments, animal husbandry, surgical preparation, and data acquisition.
  • Assist with image and data analysis of large datasets in collaboration with other scientists.
  • Assist, where needed, with general lab management tasks including, maintaining and ordering supplies, maintaining compliance, and equipment maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively with graduate students, other research assistants as well as post-docs and MDs keeping careful records of the work performed during experiments, communicating well, and presenting to the group.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or engineering including computer science, physics, neuroscience, biology, psychology, and biomedical engineering is required with a minimum of 6 months of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lab experience is preferred but a post-baccalaureate candidate building skills prior to medical or graduate school might find this position productive and rewarding. Proficiency with computer programming and electronics is a plus (applications from candidates with only computational/engineering backgrounds but with an interest in the biological sciences are also encouraged to apply). Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
