Salary: £20,251 per annum to £22,107 per annum.

We are currently looking for Revenue Officers to join our Revenue Protection Team, with the goal to deliver excellent customer service whilst reducing ticketless travel across the Northern network.


This is a fantastic opportunity and you’ll be passionate about delivering exceptional customer service, but also enthusiastic about upholding and driving forward on Northern’s revenue protection activities.


Northern will provide full training for the role, where on completion you will be self-assured when dealing with all travel irregularities including Unpaid Fares Notices, Travel Incident Reports and Penalty Fares, as well as upholding Railway Byelaws.


You’ll also get the opportunity to obtain a Level 3 NVQ qualification in Investigative Practice, which will assist you when dealing with travel irregularities across the Northern network.


Role Responsibilities:


In the frontline customer facing role, you will travel up and down the Northern network performing the following duties:


  • Monitor the on-train environment and inspect, validate, and issue tickets as appropriate
  • Deal with travel irregularities such as Unpaid Fares Notices, Travel Incident Reports and Penalty Fares
  • Provide exceptional levels of customer service whilst assisting passengers as they travel on Northern services.
  • Identify, report, and maximize revenue protection opportunities
  • Preparing any necessary reports in furtherance of Revenue Protection activity
  • Monitor the on-train environment and inspect, validate, and issue tickets as appropriate
  • Undertake ticketless travel surveys
  • Uphold Railway Byelaws
  • Complete a Level 3 NVQ in Investigative Practice; with ongoing assessments to ensure competence in the role

About You:


You should be able to demonstrate the following skills, qualifications, and behaviours:

  • Able to demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Naturally resilient, with a positive attitude towards their work and the customers they serve
  • The ability to remain patient, self-assured and calm in stressful situations, by demonstrating tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively face to face; and when writing reports
  • Experience of following rules and regulations in a similar environment (desirable)
  • Have previous experience in a similar enforcement type role (desirable)
  • Commitment to partake in training
  • Work as part of a team
  • Level 3 NVQ in Investigative Practice or similar (desirable)
  • Ability to work irregular shift patterns and unsociable hours
