Job Title: SALES MANAGER. (03/01/23)

Department: Classification: A&G / Sales Exempt

Reports to: General Manager / Dotted line Corporate Office as defined by Management/ Leadership

Job Summary

Responsible for sales activities at the property inclusive of prospecting, management, and maintenance of all sales markets, primarily transient and events. Prospect, generate leads, network to generate new business, maintain clientele within the hotel.

Activities & Responsibilities

  • Strategically develops, plans, and implements plans and objectives for all markets segments (Transient, group, social, consortia, Corporate, etc.) and to achieve revenue and profit levels as determined by Senior Management
  • Attends tradeshows, industry related meetings as assigned to generate Leads. Acts as company representative at trade association meetings
  • Creates and manages an account database to increase sales through cold calls, prospecting, and distribution of sales collateral digitally
  • Conducts telephone solicitation calls to generate new business and contacts daily. Utilizes social media channels such as

LinkedIn to develop leads and business relationships

  • Responsible for securing new sales accounts, developing + maintaining existing accounts, and implementing effective sales strategies. Develop and maintain relationships with key clients to secure small group and event business
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with officials and representatives of local community groups and companies to promote new business and increase sales for the hotel. Act as ambassador for the hotel within the community
  • Evaluates, qualifies, solicits, sells, and services (if needed) transient, group and event business in all markets to meet overall budgeted sales and profitability, control dates, availability, and rates on guest rooms and function space
  • Identify, nurture and grow top corporate accounts, top prospects
  • Solicit business from new Consortia/Travel Agent accounts
  • Respond to inquiries, transient, corporate, travel agent, meeting and events
  • PR tours with journalists, influencers (prep for arrival, amenities, itineraries, entertaining when applicable, etc.)
  • Collaborate with third-party food & beverage operators in negotiation with new clients for menu and event proposals to achieve both maximum revenue/profit potential and fulfillment of contractual responsibilities while satisfying client’s needs

Activities & Responsibilities

  • Ensures client satisfaction as measured by guests’ satisfaction surveys though proactive servicing
  • Conduct property tours and entertain, when appropriate, travel managers, travel agents, meetings planners
  • Conduct property tours for social room blocks and/or events
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to achieve sales quotas that tie into budget and develop strategies to achieve these goals
  • Assists in preparing sales budget adheres to expense guidelines
  • Work closely with corporate revenue, sales and marketing identifying strategy to position and sell the hotel
  • Resolves customer complaints, staffing problems, and other issues that may interfere with efficient sales operations
  • Follows-up with all clients through phone calls, letters, and site tours to secure contracts and ensure customer satisfactions
  • Must generate contracts and understand verbiage conducive to the Hospitality Industry.
  • Inputs data to generate contracts, update client files, and enter information into sales system/HMS
  • Participates in special projects as needed, such as property tours for the PR team including journalists, influencers,
  • Assist with all functions of the hotel as needed (Community days, pool activations, courtyard events, other operational duties, etc.)
  • Maintains cancellation policies to prevent loss of revenue due to cancellations
  • Communicates and collaborates with other departments to provide quality service for all clients and groups.
  • Pivot short-term strategy to compensate for short-term needs, without compromising long-term goals, such as placing business on the books in the fourth quarter, without losing focus on the first quarter and gaining traction on long-term goals.
  • Takes appropriate action to maximize sales and affect need periods
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and complies with all departmental policies/service procedures/fundamentals
  • Works harmoniously and professionally with coworkers and supervisors
  • Highly analytical in thought and recommendations; although will never act like the smartest person in the room; and continually seek out the facts; can express a point of view without it be driven by an ego
  • Engages others in general conversation tactics to build rapport quickly; and can lead and adapt communication and presentation tactics to engage audience; displays adaptable interpersonal skills for a wide range of audiences and stakeholders
  • Approaches fact finding and discovery missions in a collaborative effort; values input and experiences of others that creates additional insight to uncover deeper issues that need to be addressed or removed as a barrier to implementation
  • Values the importance of making decisions with integrity, maintaining confidentiality across internal work groups and knows how to use discretion when appropriate; understands the difference between transparency and confidentiality
  • Support operations and guest services as needed, particularly in guest services
  • Provides front desk coverage supporting operations when needed
  • Collects bank drops and ensures matches with HMS reports
  • Supports end of month petty cash exchanges bank audits for front desk along with operations leadership when needed
  • Report any bank discrepancies and monthly audits to finance director
  • Able to work weekends and holidays as required
  • Travel as business needs dictate
  • Participates in meetings / leads meetings as needed
  • Reports issues immediately to senior leadership
  • Follows company policies, procedures and safety practices
  • Collaborate with corporate office, ownership, investors, partners, third parties and others to satisfy business needs
  • Performs additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the manager

Tools & Technology

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Knowledge of sales and reservations systems advantageous

Knowledge of hotel operating systems preferred and/or ability to learn HMS

  • Excellent presentation skills, public speaking

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Business Administration, Hospitality or related field, or equivalent experience
  • At least three years of sales experience required
  • Hospitality experience advantageous
  • Able to travel as needed both locally and away from the city
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Knowledge of sales and reservations systems advantageous
  • Knowledge of hotel systems preferred
  • Excellent presentation skills, public speaking
  • Excellent sales and customer service skills with proven negotiation skills

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
