Covenant Academy of Mobile (CAM) is the area’s first elementary charter school opening in August 2023 with grades K-5th and adding a new grade level yearly until the 12th grade is established. The school will serve approximately 270 students. Covenant Academy of Mobile provides a “non-traditional” education that prepares students in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math (S.T.E.A.M.) environment to be leaders in a globalized world.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a nurse who is excited by the challenge of maintaining the first aid room and ensuring an efficient school nurse program within the school. This individual will serve as a health advocate for students, their families, and the entire school community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

Listed below are general duties and responsibilities. This list is not inclusive, so other duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrates success in appropriately detecting and assessing student health problems.
  • Identifies and appropriately responds to students who require special health services at school.
  • Complies with the Nurse Practice Act and CAM’s Nurse Policy Manual.
  • Complies with CAM’s reporting and recording procedures for documentation of student health information.
  • Honors code of confidentiality with students and families.
  • Maintains open communication with students, families, faculty, staff and administration.
  • Promotes and assists families in obtaining appropriate health care for their children.
  • Implements and/or supervises health program activities such as vision, hearing, spinal, height, weight, asthma and scoliosis screening, medication administration and documentation, immunization assessment and follow-up.
  • Monitors to ensure compliance with the immunization laws and guidelines as issued from the Alabama State Department of Health.
  • Assesses and manages all communicable health problems in the school population to include but not limited to influenza, chickenpox, head lice, etc.
  • Reports communicable diseases to the Mobile County or Alabama State Department of Health after obtaining written permission from the parent.
  • Demonstrates and teaches faculty members, staff and students the importance and techniques of infection control measures, including hand washing education and the practice of universal precautions as needed, but at least annually.
  • Develops, implements, and periodically evaluates medical waste management plans.
  • Participates in faculty and staff professional development activities when appropriate.
  • Obtains, at a minimum, the contact hours in nursing continuing education to maintain a current Alabama nursing license.
  • Provides emergency first aid in compliance with CAM’s procedures.
  • Serves to assist in emergency/crisis situations within the school.
  • Serves as a resource person upon request at school or community meetings (such Disaster Relief, Pandemic Flu, etc).
  • Performs all other duties as specified by the designated administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
  • Certification in the appropriate area(s)
  • Background check clearance for “suitability for employment” (See Below)
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications are determined by the Board

Reports to: Principal
Annual Contract: 9 Months

Salary and Benefits: CAM offers a competitive salary above the Alabama State Department of Education’s salary matrix. Salary is based upon degree, licensure, and experience. Also, a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and retirement will be provided for all employees.

**Employees who are currently enrolled in Teachers’ Retirement System of Alabama can transfer benefits, along with accumulated sick leave days. The benefits will continue with CAM.
