SUMMARY: The Seasonal Summer Grounds Helper is responsible to help clean and maintain all school property, ensuring all equipment, materials, etc. are available for scheduled activities for both community and student activities, removal of trash, debris from exterior areas; and for serving as a representative of the District to the community, students, parents, and the general public while activities are occurring within the building or on site.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Although some duties are limited to a particular building, all employees may be required to move or assist at another facility. Other duties may be assigned as required.

The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of what is expected of all employees holding this position:

Seasonal Responsibilities: The following is a representation of the activities that are performed by the seasonal staff.

Grounds-keeping:

  • Maintain athletic fields, including marking, seeding, fertilizing, aerating, and watering.
  • Operate grounds equipment and vehicles.
  • Grounds-keeping projects.
  • Deliver material throughout the district.
  • Fill in for other Custodial/Maintenance staff when needed.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment. To run powered equipment individuals must be at least 18 years old.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: One to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Wisconsin driver's license required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Ability to work effectively, collaboratively and positively with co-workers, District staff, students, public and administration.

  • Ability to plan, collect, and organize materials to be used for the tasks assigned.
  • Ability to carry out work with little or no direction.
  • Ability to use good judgment and solve problems sometimes in emergencies or within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to follow direction, learn and follow all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to follow all rules governing conduct in the workplace.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, chemical labels, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Act as a representative of the School District and deal politely and tactfully with the public, community groups, students, parents and other employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving some standardized situations.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical and work demands described here are representative of those that must be met by every employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, bend, twist, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet, cold, and extreme heat.
