PAY INFORMATION
  • $19.50 per hour
  • Non-exempt position (eligible for overtime when applicable under state law)

LOCATION
Glenwood Springs houses the largest mineral pool in the world, it is also one of the hottest in Colorado. Despite its mountain location, Glenwood Springs is one of the most walkable towns in America. You can walk from Glenwood Springs to Aspen along the Rio Grande Trail, although it may take you a few days as it is 42 miles one way.



THE POSITION
This Armed Security Officer position will provide security and safety for detention center staff and facilities. This position will perform important work in the safekeeping of prisoners in the custody of the Sheriff at the county detention facility and will protect the well-being of prisoners, overseeing them in their quarters and during transport. Our officers must legally possess a firearm (we will train) and additional certifications are highly valued, such as a baton permit, pepper spray permit, and CPR certification. It is important that this position must be able to collaborate with the other members of our team to limit any potential risks. We expect each infraction to be thoroughly investigated and properly documented.


Essential Job Functions
  • Provide an armed security presence at our client's site to detect and deter all possible threats.
  • Visibly watch for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
  • Provides security and supervision to inmates in a variety of situations and activities; maintain security of an assigned area or post.
  • Provides security and supervision over inmate work crews; escorts inmates to work sites; inventories and controls all equipment, weapons, tools and keys.
  • Patrols corridors, dormitories and work areas on an assigned shift; observes activities and movements of inmates; manages inmate conduct, work and discipline.
  • Maintains order and discipline in programs and during meals and recreation periods; inspects living areas, facilities and work locations for unauthorized objects or materials; makes reports on incidents.
  • Visually and auditorily monitors inmate and visitor activities throughout the detention's facility via closed circuit cameras and intercoms.
  • Operates manually or electronically controlled security equipment maintaining controlled movement of inmates, staff and the public.
  • Conducts inmate counts; performs searches of inmates and living quarters for contraband; enforces institutional rules and regulations.
  • Prepares written documentation and reports concerning inmate behavior, status and movement.
  • Provide customer service to our client by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities.
  • Effectively communicate and work with all levels of county employees, management and citizens.
  • Able to effectively manage people with an understanding of human behavior.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population to include inmates, criminal justice agency personnel and other county employees, representatives of other agencies, organizations and members of the community.
  • Ability to multitask. Being required to simultaneously visually monitor detentions center/justice center activities while auditor ally receiving phone calls, radio traffic as well as inmate requests and system alarms.
  • Comprehends and responds to radio traffic in a clear and concise manner using appropriate radio protocol when transmitting information.
  • Ability to manipulate problems in a timely manner and make appropriate and independent decisions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals as well as court and legal documents.
  • Perform additional tasks, related duties, projects, and special assignments as assigned by the reporting manager or client.




Qualification Requirements
  • Provide credible references and I-9 Employment Eligibility Documentation (legal eligibility to work in the U.S.).
  • Must have a high school diploma / GED.
  • Ability to perform job tasks in an extremely professional manner in a customer service driven industry.
  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and a background check.
  • Ability to stand and walk for several hours per shift.
  • Reliable transportation and proximity to site(s).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Punctuality, never late.
  • Must own a smartphone for scheduling and clocking in / out.
  • Experience in CPR, first aid, firefighting and crowd control is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous security or law enforcement experience preferred, but not required.
