Manage portfolio by investigating (as required by line of business), researching and ensuring consistent and optimal disposition of claims, assessing and estimating damage, reviewing and analyzing various types of contracts/policies, negotiating settlements and making recommendations on legal and coverage issues. Responsible for working on medium to high volume of moderate complexity cases for assigned line(s) of business, including reinsurance and catastrophe claims.
Primary Responsibilities

  • General Responsibilities
  • Contact all parties involved to complete full investigation (as required by line of business) of the facts and damages relevant to the claim within required statutory time frame
  • Evaluate and negotiate the resolution of claims within authority levels while mitigating damages to achieve cost effective claims outcomes
  • Interpret policy / contract language and evaluate coverage issues of multiple policies / contracts / endorsements, to determine liability and evaluate damage of all exposures related to the claim
  • Identify and refer claims to subject matter experts or manager in a timely manner to maximize claim outcomes; ensure files are documented and closed with all appropriate claim information
  • Provide effective and timely communication to all internal and external stakeholders regarding claim status and other inquiries such as fraud, subrogation recovery, reserve adequacy and underwriting risks; build close partnerships throughout the life of the claim
  • Support claims workflow efficiency by accurately documenting portfolio progress, referring high risk exposures outside authority levels and seeking opportunities that enhance operational knowledge
  • Utilize judgment and industry skill set to apply case reserves independently; review reserves on assigned claim files and recommend additional case reserves or other necessary changes
  • Specific responsibilities dependent upon line of business:
  • Auto
  • Responsible for claims relating to first- and third-party auto claims
  • Broad knowledge and experience with commercial line auto policies, coverages, principles, and laws
  • Manage liability investigations including negotiating and settling claims
  • Interpret auto repair estimates and ensure appropriate valuation and appraisal
  • Liability
  • Responsible for general liability claims including but not limited to slip/trip and falls, food-borne illnesses, product liability, property damage and/or auto bodily injury
  • Broad knowledge and experience with commercial liability policies, coverages, principles and laws
  • Handle policy limit and time limited demands including all applicable conditions
  • Prepare and present Claim File Reviews professionally with internal and external partners
  • Interpret and communicate coverage, including, but not limited to writing Disclaimer and Reservation of Rights (ROR) letters
  • Properly evaluate and reserve injury exposures based on a thorough investigation of the injuries, damages and other factors (i.e. venue, etc.)
  • Homeowners Property
  • Proven track record of handling an increased severity level of homeowners claims
  • Requires working knowledge and experience of first party homeowners’ property claims
  • Increased level of experience in complex coverage investigations
  • Increased technical skill set to handle 1st party property claims under multiple policy types and numerous endorsements
  • Interprets and determines policies, leases, by-laws, declarations, articles and contract coverages and applies to all parties for assigned losses
  • Commercial Property
  • Experience in specialty commercial coverage lines such as business income and extra expense, inland marine, equipment breakdown, and data compromise claims
  • Full understanding of commercial coverage forms and application of policy language
  • Strong technical skill set with high severity claim handling; ability to communicate on a technical level with internal and external partners
  • Proven track record of building solid relationships with agents/brokers/policyholders and maintaining a high level of customer service
  • Identify and resolve claim disputes and avoid escalations

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Required Experience

  • 3 years relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Maintain adjusters license in states requiring licensing

Preferred Licenses/Certifications

  • Associate in Claims (AIC)
  • Associate in Management (AIM)
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
  • Senior Claim Law Associate (SCLA)

Preferred Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of claims administration best practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of insurance products and services
  • Understanding of relevant laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Understanding of market trends and organizational strategies
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, general computer software and database systems
