The Opportunity:
Central to Urban’s mission is fostering a truly inclusive community that ensures ongoing relevance to a changing world. The Urban Institute’s Executive Office is seeking a Senior Project Manager to support research and programmatic coordination. Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Research Management and Program Development, the Senior Project Manager will work across Urban’s extensive research programs to support the collective, coordinated advancement of the Senior Vice President’s priorities.
This person will be an exceptional communicator, who is adept at navigating complex internal dynamics and can rapidly develop a deep understanding of Urban’s work. The ideal candidate is experienced in policy research and brings a strong interest in complex, intersectional research and policy areas and a deep commitment to Urban’s mission and to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
What You’ll Do:

Support Senior Vice President and Executive Office research and program development priorities across Urban Institute, including program implementation, quality assurance and research support, and tracking relevant metrics on research activities and outcomes.

Collaborate with colleagues in the Executive Office to ensure the efficient flow of information from research and program functions to finance, operations, communications, and development.

With the Senior Vice President’s team, support the development and implementation of management solutions through coordination with other Urban research centers and offices.

Plan, coordinate, and lead internal meetings, including preparing agendas, talking points, and staffing events for the Senior Vice President.

Write memos, talking points, strategy briefs, blog posts, and other policy-related documents.

Respond to time-sensitive requests, convening relevant experts, soliciting stakeholder input, and developing recommendations for the Senior Vice President team.
Who You Are:
We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in research administration and project management who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment and can bring diverse stakeholders together to develop and execute on shared goals.
The successful applicant will:

Possess a Master’s degree in public policy, political science, public administration, sociology, or a related field and 3+ years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Bring substantive policy and research administration experience, including experience working with researchers, policymakers, or philanthropic leaders, and demonstrated interest in the strategic importance of research for policy impact.

Exhibit excellent organizational and writing stills, and the ability to ask good questions, identify new opportunities, and use good judgment to prioritize tasks while responding to quick turn-around requests under tight deadlines.

Be “customer focused” – committed to solving problems and closing loops – and comfortable “managing up, down, and across,” with strong interpersonal skills and experience managing cross-organization collaborative projects and working in team environments.

Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Smartsheet, Salesforce or other project management tools.
*We are only seeking candidates who can be in our Washington DC office at least one day per week.*

The target salary range for this position is $80,000 - $115,000. Salary offered is commensurate with experience and considers internal equity. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Salaries are just one component of Urban Institute’s total compensation package. Urban is committed to supporting our staff’s physical, emotional, and financial well-being through a robust benefits package for yourself, eligible dependents, and domestic partners. It includes generous paid time off, including nine federal holidays, medical (including prescription), dental and vision insurance, and transit benefits. Urban is unique in that we offer 403(b) retirement plan participation immediately after you’re hired and a generous employer contribution after six months of service and 500 hours, with immediate vesting. You’ll also have access to a health advocate, personal finance coaching, an Employee Assistance Program, and educational assistance for undergraduate and graduate degree programs. This position has the opportunity to be fully remote.

All Urban Institute employees must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by January 18, 2022, and comply with masking and distancing requirements, regardless of responsibilities or work location.
