SEMA Construction, Inc., voted a Top Workplace by the Denver Post, has an opening for an experienced Senior Project Manager with a background in heavy civil construction. The Project Manager will be based out of our corporate office in Centennial, CO.

The Senior Project Manager will organize, manage, and plan complex projects for the organization’s research, development, and product implementation efforts. The applicant must be a self-starter who operates independently and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees a team of analysts to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and to specifications.
  • Delegates work and assignments to team members based on expertise, work experience, and time constraints.
  • Leads an interdepartmental team to complete an assigned project on time, to specifications, on budget, and with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manages all project operations including staff and client relationships.
  • Manages all subcontractors for timely completion and quality.
  • Coaches, mentors, motivates and supervises project team members and subcontractors, and influences them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Schedules and supervises foreman and field personnel with daily schedules including materials, subcontractors, equipment, quality control, etc.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Outlines the tasks involved in the project and delegates accordingly.
  • Conducts cost analysis on an ongoing basis, projecting expected costs for the project.
  • Implements a budget based on estimates.
  • Conducts risk assessments; reports identified risks to management; provides recommendations for mitigation of risk (including termination of the project if appropriate).
  • Addresses questions, concerns, and/or complaints from various stakeholders throughout the project.
  • Acts as a liaison between company, customers, and vendors.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Communicates directly with internal management concerning project cost, staffing and scheduling.
  • Prepares project status reports and works to ensure plans adhere to contract specifications.
  • Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility.
  • Gives input into developing the budget.
  • Resolves escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
  • Manages project budget and processes change orders as needed.
  • Directs and manages project development from beginning to end.
  • Assists in the development of cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for projects.
  • Assures quality control, contract compliance, and administration throughout the project.
  • Oversees all project administration systems and management of job site personnel.
  • Performs extensive client relationship management, represents the organization at regional meetings, develop proposals and onsite inspections as necessary.
  • Ensures project compliance with SEMA’s safety policies and OSHA safety standards.
  • Coordinates timely completion of traffic control plans, equipment mobilization, safety plans, haul road plans, erosion control plans, purchase ordering, job costing, and other duties as required.
  • Coordinates with superintendents and foreman to ensure project goals and expectations are met.
  • Defines project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicates project expectations and support the Superintendent in coordinating crews, coordinating sub-contractors, material purchases, and equipment needs.
  • Estimates the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
  • Recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
  • When required, negotiates with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
  • Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations.
  • Determines the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
  • Builds, develops, and grows any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
  • Conducts project evaluations upon completion and create a recommendations report to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Oversees changes in scope of work and be proficient in Viewpoint.
  • Prepares project planning to include project definition, scope, resources, budget, and schedule.
  • Establishes baseline schedule from the job estimate.
  • Negotiates contracts and provides customer support on all jobs.
  • Directs multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • 10+ years of experience in all aspects of managing civil construction projects with a proven track record of success (including roadways, bridges, underground utilities and support infrastructure).
  • Construction Management or Civil Engineering degree from a four-year university.
  • Proven leadership skills and highly professional demeanor
  • Experience working with DOT.
  • Strong knowledge of computer software, such as Viewpoint, Auto CAD, Primavera, Microsoft Office, and Sharepoint.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, or construction management and over ten years of experience with advanced knowledge, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • PMP, PgMP, CAPM, and/or comparable project management certifications are highly desirable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
