About the Role:
Wash is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer with deep knowledge and broad experience across Microsoft-based technologies. This employee will be a member of the Information Technology Services team and will support all Wash personnel. The ideal candidate will be flexible and flourish in a fast paced and challenging environment. The Senior Systems Administrator should be a self-starter, self-motivator and possess ingenuity to excel at this position.
What you’ll do:
- Work closely with other Wash developers and engineers to gather requirements, research, evaluate, design, plan, deploy, and support Microsoft enterprise software platforms and related technologies in a world-class environment that meets the needs of the demanding Wash engineering teams. Build highly-resilient, high-performance, scalable, and flexible systems.
- Exercise a high degree of responsibility for the processes, systems, and tools you create and manage;
- Make recommendations, justify, and implement improvements using an accepted change control methodology.
- Work within a diverse group to design and deliver creative solutions and resolve problems in a timely and proactive manner by interacting with internal business units.
- Define, document and follow standards and best practices for systems design, testing, and implementation.
- Drive scripting and automation to develop solutions to common problems.
- Maintains and manages day to day efforts of the datacenter, server operating systems, storage and networking.
- Assisting service desk staff with system level troubleshooting
- Monitor processes and tools ensuring system availability and up-time
- System administration and maintenance of our hosted infrastructure (on-premise & cloud)
- Working with a development and testing staff to identify requirements and implement solutions
- The position requires exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, and the individual must possess a structured, methodical approach to systems development and administration.
- Documenting processes and procedures
Time commitments:
- Willingness to be on-call
- Evening and weekend time may be required for, but not limited to, and activities that would negatively impact the production environment, or elevate the risk of negatively affecting the production environment
- 24x7 Pager Duty Rotation amongst team members for emergencies.
What we are looking for:
Candidates will need to reside in any of the following states for the duration of their time with WASH: Alaska, AZ, CA, CO, FL, HI, IL, IN, MI, NV, NC, OH, OR, TX, WA, WI
- Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university or relevant experience;
- 6+ years of experience in IT systems administration in a Windows environment
- Hands-on Experience with Windows Servers in physical and virtualized environments
- Hands-on Implementation experience with Active Directory, Kerberos, and multi-platform authentication/identification environments.
- Hands-on Implementation experience with Storage Array Networks (NetApp/EMC)
- Hands-on Experience with virtualized infrastructure (VMWare, HyperV)
- Hands-on Experience with monitoring and APM tools such as Nagios, Icinga, SCOM, SolarWinds, New Relic, AppDynamics, etc.
- Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Chef
- Expertise in creating repeatable, reliable, scalable systems architectures, with high availability, fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring, and statistics/metrics collection.
- Expert working knowledge (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot) Windows-based systems and networking services such as DHCP, DNS, IIS, MS-SQL, NPS, etc.
- Expert level familiarity with Windows Server 2019
- Strong debugging and performance analysis skills
- Must be comfortable working with mission critical and sensitive systems, with a sense of urgency appropriate to the responsibilities.
- The position requires exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, develop communications skills with the ability to communicate with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations.
- Experience with a combination of open source and Microsoft technologies
- Proven track record of learning and adapting to new technologies
- Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to support multiple concurrent projects
