Riverside Research Institute is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor to join our team of subject matter experts supporting the Defense Innovation Unit's AI Portfolio. The individual will directly support Portfolio leadership and diverse project teams in devising and executing strategies to better leverage AI and ML commercial technology to solve complex defense-related problems. The ideal individual should possess relevant technical expertise in diverse AI and ML applications, dynamic and inspiring leadership qualities, and a passion for guiding diverse teams toward achieving shared national security mission objectives.
Location:
Location is flexible, but ideally Mountain View, CA, Washington, DC, or other innovation hub in the US.
Responsibilities

- Provide technical expertise and experience in development and deployment of systems that incorporate artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-performance computing, and data science
- Facilitate collaboration around AI/ML technology and policy across DoD and the rest of government
- Work with mission partners to identify and qualify DoD problems to identify collaboration opportunities with DIU
- Help to identify and match commercial technologies to DoD problems.
- Coordinate and manage the activities of other technical staff
- Provide technical diligence, market assessments, technical scoping, and de-risking in support DIU projects
- Lead and mentor project teams in the execution of prototype projects and delivery of commercial AI solutions for defense applications
- Support AI prize competitions and projects in collaboration with other project managers and technical staff
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years preferred of professional experience positions of engineering, technical, and/or product development focus
- PhD in computer science / engineering or similar technical degree(s) or Masters + substantial commercial experience
- Full-stack proficiency in a relevant set of software languages / frameworks (e.g. Python, C++, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Experience developing AI / analytic models, performing test & evaluation, and deploying them to production
- Ability to drive big-picture goals while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Strong project reporting skills with a focus on interdisciplinary communication to diverse stakeholders and audiences
- Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and team leadership skills to achieve results
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
- US citizen
Desired Qualifications:
- Expert knowledge of current and emerging AI / computing technologies from an academic, venture/private industry, and defense perspectives
- Demonstrated track record of successful commercial software development, product and/or project management
- Experience translating complex technical concepts int executable solutions for large organizations
- Ability to exercise mature leadership and sound judgment in resolving problems involving multiple stakeholders and equities
- Ability to independently collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data, and present findings and recommendations to senior leadership
- Active TS/SCI
