Job description
The Hardwick Area Food Pantry (HAFP) has three sites in Hardwick, Craftsbury, and Albany and serves an average of 2,000 people per month from over 20 different towns. We are committed to holding our communities in care and dignity, listening to understand the needs of our neighbors, and innovating and collaborating as a key partner in the work of community food access. We are also committed to supporting our local community’s health and local growers - making fresh, quality food available to all is central to our mission. We consider ourselves a mutual aid organization that rejects the standard deficiency thinking we often see, and embrace an inclusive, abundance mindset. Our staff and volunteers all share the following skills and interests: • A passion for building resilient communities • A love for meeting and interacting with multiple types of people • An ability to experience and share empathy and respect to all others • An interest in understanding the causes and effects of poverty and the desire to serve • An ability to work independently and collaboratively • Communicate clearly, effectively, compassionately, and courageously. • Have a nuanced understanding of rural communities and culture. We strive to be a warm and welcoming employer that is supportive, collaborative, and open to ideas and accommodating interests and strengths.
Member Duties : HAFP is looking for an organized, motivated and creative individual who will assist with the implementation of our newly created Strategic Plan. This person will serve closely with the HAFP Director, Site Coordinators, and the HAFP Board. Board and Staff developed three primary goals for our strategic plan: 1. Hardwick Area Food Pantry has adequate capacity – people, infrastructure and funding– in place to accomplish its goals. 2. All are aware of the offerings of the Hardwick Area Food Pantry and can access what they need in terms of foods, non-food items, and services. 3. Partnerships and collaborations with other organizations, businesses and institutions help support the Hardwick Area Food Pantry’s work. While the AmeriCorps VISTA member will support all of these goals, the primary focus will be on building and documenting systems that allow for sustainability of the organization.
