The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) acts as the single point of contact regarding safety and environmental health on the project or construction site and is responsible for implementing all aspects of the Construction Safety and Environmental Health Plan. This role works closely with Senior Management, the Security and Training Manager, project managers, and the construction teams. One priority is to maintain an ongoing and positive contact with government/customers on safety and environmental monitoring, assessments, planning, and training. This role performs site visits and writes reports, communicates incidents to prime contractors and company management. The purpose of this role is to mitigate and/or eliminate safety or health risks. The SSHO is responsible for maintaining compliance with corporate and industry safety standards for vehicles, work sites, and projects. This position will be required to work with minimal oversight and willing to follow directions and adhere to construction industry safety and environmental health standards closely. The work locations are often in austere outdoor environments and this position will be expected to work under all types of weather conditions.

Safety and Environmental Health Management

  • Develop, promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety and environmental health program by performing site visits, observation of work, reviews, inspections, site operations, and methods and procedures.
  • Write safety and accident prevention plans.
  • Conduct safety briefings, training sessions, and inspections
  • Research and document safety regulation with regulatory bodies and translate findings into practical policies and procedures.
  • Maintain Safety Manual with current and relevant updates by maintaining any changes to regulations, materials, and equipment.
  • Work in an advisor role to lead the company’s safety and environmental culture.
  • Work with Field Teams (Training Manager, project managers, and the construction team) to identify, reduce, and mitigate Safety and Environmental risks that could cause harm to oneself or endanger the well-being others and equipment.
  • Cooperate with employees, supervisors, managers, and external entities to ensure proper policies and procedures are carried out according to the Company, regulatory and customer’s Security, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
  • Identify, document, and report Safety and Environmental violations to the appropriate personnel, supervisors and managers as required to include completing and filing incident reports for damage to equipment, personnel, and close calls/near misses. Track and manage over the long-term to ensure Safety and Security is continuously improving.
  • Conducts end of day security checks.
  • Perform job-related documentation and reporting requirements in accordance with company policy, per contract and ITL Builder Design and S&K Design Build corporate policies including the development of inputs and support of customer deliverables as they are defined.


Training

  • Develop, promote, execute and adhere to the company’s training program.
  • Conduct, monitor, and track all company training as required for tracking and documenting Safety training and standards.
  • Support company as Subject Matter Expert for meetings, classes, and inspections.
  • Lead training efforts in a safe, responsible manner without intentional or unintentional risks for injuring oneself or endangering the wellbeing of others.


Teamwork

  • Participate as a vital team member and contribute towards the success of projects and the organization’s safety status.
  • Build a Safety Culture by promoting a team approach and maintaining dialogue with all employees, contractors and the customer to exchange information and gather ideas for continuous improvement and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other company personnel, contractors, regulators, monitors, and the customer to meet organizational and project deadlines, metrics, and mission objectives.
  • Perform timecard updates daily and sign timecards weekly to support project reporting and payroll activities.


Education


  • High school diploma / GED - required
  • Military/ Law Enforcement advanced leadership training - preferred


Experience


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Safety Manager related field or
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Tower/Construction field or
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Security Manager position and
  • Minimum 3 years performing as a site supervisor on Government Construction Projects required


License, Cert or Registration


  • Current Driver’s license
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship
  • AHA CPR, 1ST Aid, AED certification
  • OSHA 10 & 30 General Industry Safety & Health certification
  • OSHA 40 Hazwopper certification
  • COMTRAIN Authorized & Competent Climber/Rescuer certification
  • COMTRAIN Rigging certification
  • EM385-1-1 Certification
  • Quality Control Manager Certification, or the ability to obtain outstanding certifications within six months


Special knowledge, skills, & abilities


  • Must be able to write safety and accident prevention plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge of civil, road, and vertical construction and the concepts for adapting safety and environmental health measures to all work environments
  • Ability to review and understand potential safety and environmental health threats to the workforce and implement training and course material to promote understanding and to reduce the threat and promote understanding and a safety culture
  • Ability to quickly identify and mitigate risks and manage safety situations using problem-solving and communications skills
