Required Qualifications
1. MSc. in plant pathology, plant breeding, agronomy, biology, or related field and one (1) year experience in research work/training.
2. A valid pesticide applicators license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
3. Ability to pass a respirator fit test.

Desired Qualifications
1. MSc. in plant pathology, plant breeding, agronomy, biology, or related field.
2. Experience in field research and disease screening nurseries.
3. Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain field research equipment such tractors, tillage equipment, plot planters, and sprayers.
4. Demonstrated ability to analyze and summarize large, complex datasets using current statistical software applications, including R.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
6. Evidence of good communication skills.

The Northwest Research and Outreach Center is located adjacent to the University of Minnesota Crookston campus. The NWROC is part of the University of MN College of
Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences (CFANS), which owns about 1,500 acres of land. The center provides analytical, biological, and field laboratories to U of M faculty, staff, and students to conduct research and demonstrations that will enhance the efficient use of agriculture and natural resources in northwest Minnesota.

Position and/or Unit Overview - This position is located at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center located in Crookston, MN. The position provides technical support
to Dr. Jochum Wiersma. This is a 12-month, continuing position, eligible for University benefits.

Major Areas of Accountability (with percentages):
1. Establishing and Maintaining Disease Screening Nurseries (50%)
Responsible for independent design, plan, and implement multiple disease-screening nurseries. You will plant and maintain the trials, produce pathogen inoculum, and inoculate the field experiments. This includes the application of herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides when needed. You will design, install, and operate misting systems to
promote disease development and collect of disease incidence, severity data, and related agronomic data. You will assist with harvesting, processing samples, and preparing the collected data for statistical analysis. To ensure the continued success of the disease screening nurseries you are expected to review the appropriate scientific literature and propose alternate methods, procedures, and techniques.

2. Coordination of Disease Screening Nurseries and Field Trials (20%)
You are an integral part of a team of plant breeders and plant pathologists at the University of Minnesota that work on winter and spring barley, oats, spring and winter
wheat, and winter rye. You are to communicate with the other team members to determine their needs for disease screening nurseries and related field trials and plan
accordingly. You are expected to keep the other team members abreast of the progress of the nurseries, including the progression of the target and non-target diseases.

3. Data Management (20%)
You will compile the collected data of the different disease nurseries and other field trials immediately following harvest to allow the other team members to make timely
decisions. This includes independently conducting quality control analyses of the collected data, conducting preliminary statistical analyses, interpreting the results,
writing summary reports, and preparing manuscripts for publication.

4. Hiring and supervision of student workers (10%)
Hire and supervise student workers to support the project, including ensuring that appropriate safety training and University guidelines are met.
