Job description

Smith County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for a full-time Dispatcher.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls from the general public, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies.
2. Seeks information from callers such as names, locations, and reasons for call.
3. Based on training and approved guidelines, evaluates purpose of the received call, determines the correct response, and dispatches the appropriate agencies, personnel, and resources needed
4. Inputs and retrieves information from law enforcement databases regarding wanted persons, stolen vehicles, etc.
5. Monitors and records location of law enforcement officers to ensure their safety and efficiency of dispatch.

Performs other duties as assigned.

• Must be able to adapt and prioritize in a stressful environment.
• Be able to make decisions quickly.
• Have a calm demeanor during stressful situations
• Must have clear and accurate communication skills over the phone, radio, or interpersonally.
• Be able to input information accurately into computer software.
• Must be detail oriented.

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma (or its equivalent) required.
