JOB TITLE:
District Social Service Coordinator REPORTS TO: Director of Equity and Inclusion


GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:

The Social Services Coordinator position functions as part of the broader Equity strategic plan for TTSD. Their role is to build relationships with local businesses, faith-based, and culturally specific partners to connect community and culturally relevant resources, social services, and opportunities for underserved and underrepresented students and families.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of staff at the Family Resource Center.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage and Support Family Resource Center

  • Under the direction of and partnership with the Director of Equity and Inclusion, coordinate the comprehensive school-based Family Resource Center that offers both information and a variety of social services and resource connection
  • Supervise staff at Family Resource Center
  • Coordinate community resource referrals for Community Warehouse, Northwest Children’s Outreach, and other social services resources
  • Mitigate Adverse Childhood Experiences in partnership with families through access to resources and connection to social services
  • Manage the Tigard-Tualatin Resource Guide and related district webpages
  • Find funding and partnerships to support access to resources to serve families including but not limited to: applying for grants, finding local partners, and developing partnerships to support family and student needs
  • Facilitate Tigard-Tualatin Service Providers Networking Meetings


Basic Needs Infrastructure System Management

  • Empower families through knowledge and information about resources and services
  • Develop training documents and systems of support for staff helping with Basic Needs (Culturally Responsive Coordinators, Culturally Responsive Liaisons, Counselors, Family Partnership advocates and other roles supporting basic needs) such as McKinney-Vento services, applying for resources, and partnerships with community agencies to support family agency
  • Facilitate Basic Needs Team Meetings & Basic Needs Team Leadership Meetings
  • Partner with local entities serving our homeless youth and families under the McKinney Vento Act, and the McKinney-Vento Liaison and other school staff to develop systems of support for families experiencing homelessness


Support Systems Improvement

  • Work in collaboration with the TTSD community to coordinate social services and improve service delivery with a focus on students and families that have been historically underserved
  • Partner with the TTSD Business and Accounting department to help eliminate barriers to funding needed supports for students and families and process funding requests for mental health copays, extracurricular scholarships, rent & utility assistance, etc. as funding allows
  • Partner with the TTSD Student Services department to improve Multi Tiered Systems of support related to Basic Needs and Attendance teams
  • Research, develop, and facilitate training efforts to improve family partnership, including but not limited to home visits, facilitating family partnership efforts, and improvement initiatives to eliminate barriers for participation


Facilitating Equitable Systems and Community Partnerships

  • Facilitate collaborative partnerships between schools in TTSD.
  • Co-lead culturally responsive professional development opportunities for Family Partnership Advocates, Building Equity Coordinators, Equity Leadership teams, and other department partners.
  • Support training of family partnership advocates for home visits and family partnership
  • Facilitate, co-lead, and/or participate in Family Pillar Meetings, Building Equity Coordinator Meetings, and District Equity Leadership meetings, as needed.
  • Coordinate and help oversee community partnership initiatives with the assistance from the Director of Equity and Inclusion (social services awareness events, fundraising, business partners, faith based partners, and volunteer coordination)
  • Manage and maintain a flexible work schedule to support the needs of students and families in the TTSD community.
  • Assist and support the Director of Equity and Inclusion and actualize Equity Mission and Vision for TTSD.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • Extensive knowledge of social services coordination and social service systems
  • Strong equity lens; experience working with diverse populations and connecting students' needs and improving academic outcomes for students.
  • Hold or Obtain an Oregon or Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Self-starter and creative problem-solver, ability to navigate conflict through effective communication
  • Strong relationship builder and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with students who are first-generation and/or from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Technical skills include the use of presentation software, word processing, and the ability to learn and use technology to innovate and increase efficiency.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects; ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Applies appropriate district, building, and departmental policies, procedures, and work rules, including safety practices.
  • Knowledge and experience leading initiatives
  • Professional learning, training, coaching, and team facilitation knowledge and skills.
  • Collection, analysis and use of data for decision-making.
  • Planning, developing and evaluating programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with individuals, teams and groups.


Preferred:

  • Bicultural and Multilingual Preferred
  • Strong knowledge of theory, current research, and emerging promising practices in race equity education as applied to instruction, anti-bias education and culturally sustaining practices.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging promising practices in teaching adults.
  • Knowledge of Improvement Science for transformational practices in continuous improvement efforts
  • Three or more years of experience creating and facilitating effective professional development in race equity in meetings and workshop settings.
  • Strong excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. This includes the ability to express complex ideas with clarity and precision both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity, trauma-informed care, and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Understanding of the role of racism and other systemic inequities in an individual’s life and systems


EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:


B.A. Degree in related field or at least 3 years equivalent experience in community organizing and facilitating connections to social services.

  • Working at a computer station for possible extended periods of the day

Paperwork is done in an office environment. Traveling to meetings, family homes and sites is essential, some transporting of equipment and supplies is involved. Some activities will take place during inclement weather. Maintain a flexible work schedule that may include some evenings and weekends.

EVALUATION


Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 51.
