RLE International and FutureMotiv are seeking a Sr. Vehicle Controls Engineer to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona. FutureMotiv is a hybrid / EV System Integration company with a great pedigree of IPR / "Know-How" in this domain. Specializing in the specification, design, integration, and validation of low carbon powertrain systems. With the huge increase in demand for Hybrid and EV developments we offer differentiation in the marketplace by using our great pedigree to deliver safe (ISO26262) and robust systems that can be used not just for making a couple of prototypes but also for delivering mass market producible systems.

Job Description

We are looking for a Sr. Vehicle Controls Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of vehicle controls principles, as well as experience with ISO 26262, MATLAB Simulink, and Embedded C. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of vehicle control systems. They will also be responsible for working with other engineers to ensure that the systems meet all safety and performance requirements.


Core Job Duties:


  • Develop and implement control algorithms for automotive applications in compliance with ISO 26262 functional safety standards.
  • Use MATLAB/Simulink and Embedded C to design, test, and integrate control systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers, to ensure seamless integration of control algorithms into the overall vehicle system.
  • Conduct validation and verification activities, including model-in-the-loop (MIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, to ensure the safety and reliability of control systems.
  • Analyze and interpret system requirements, functional safety concepts, and safety analyses to ensure compliance with ISO 26262 standards.
  • Document control system designs, test results, and safety analyses in accordance with company and industry standards (ASPICE).
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in vehicle controls technology and industry standards, and apply them to the development of control systems.
  • Participate in vehicle testing and validation activities.

Key Competencies:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in vehicle controls engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for the development of control algorithms.
  • Familiarity with embedded C.
  • Solid understanding of vehicle controls principles, including vehicle dynamics, powertrain control, propulsion control, body control, and thermal control.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 functional safety standards and experience in developing safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with model-in-the-loop (MIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing for control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience with vehicle communication tools like, vector CANalyzer and CANape, ETAS INCA.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Experience with software development processes, including version control, testing, and documentation.
  • Experience with safety validation techniques, such as fault injection, fault tolerance analysis, and safety simulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with requirements management tools like Jama and Doors.
  • Experience with software task management tools like Jira.
  • Experience with software revision tools like Git, SVN.
