Staff Accountant
Job description
The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team as we work to expand our impact within the neurosurgical and medical communities. The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. A qualified candidate will also assist with the preparation of the Association (AANS), the Foundation (NREF) and the data registry arms (NPA) internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare, analyze, and maintains general ledger & related organization’s investments schedules and various treasury reports. In addition, works closely with CFO on its investment policy.
- Creates new financial reports, from start to finish, within Management Reporter when necessary.
- Maintains all fixed assets, depreciation, supporting schedules, certain prepaid, deferred and liability accounts.
- Prepares journal entries and various services related to the financial statements of the AANS and its related organizations.
- Maintains the chart of accounts to ensure that AANS’ general ledger and financial reporting software are both accurate and current.
- Prepares two (sometimes complex) monthly bank reconciliations which include the bank reconciliations of the American Association of Neurosurgeons, or the 501c3, and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, or the 501c6.
- Processes NeurosurgeryPAC’s donations and quarterly governmental PAC filing prior to approval by the Senior Manager of Legislative Affairs and the CFO. In addition, processes NeuroPoint Alliance (NPA) checks.
- Assists with the AANS’ and related organizations budgeting process: This includes working closely with others and especially with the Manager of Reporting Systems.
- Prepares annual audit work papers for areas of responsibility as outlined in AANS’ annual auditing firm’s prepared by client (PBC) listing.
- Prepares and files various sales and use tax returns and assist in the semi-monthly refund process.
- Annual Meeting financial reports: Processes various Convention Data Services financial reports. Journal entries are then prepared from this data prior to input into AANS’ general ledger.
- Communicates with various vendors as necessary and provides “back-up” support for both receivables and payables functions.
- Assists in on-going accounting software upgrades this includes both Great Plains and Management Reporter.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Two years of professional experience as an accountant, OR valid Certified Public Accountant certificate
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ability to correctly prepare tax reports. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
