SUMMARY: The role of the Staff Accountant is to ensure that all general ledger accounts are in balance at day’s end and to prepare/file various regulatory reports in a timely manner. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will handle projects as assigned, complete administrative tasks and serve as a back-up to other positions within the General Ledger department when needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
- Balance the Bank’s Federal Reserve Bank Account, Time WIP’s-CD’s and IRA’s, Loan Suspense, GL Suspense, In-Process Suspense (IPS), Cash Accounts, and Cash Items
- Prepare and submit various Federal Reserve Reports on a daily, weekly and/or bi-weekly basis (FR2900, FR2644, etc.)
- Assists in the completion of all Accounts Payable functions such as receiving, documenting, and payment of invoices
- Balance bank statements from correspondent banks
- Reconcile system generated reports for fixed assets and prepaid accounts
- Learn and perform all functions of the General Ledger department to provide backup and support when needed
- Aid in the preparation of regulatory reports such as the Call Report, Y9 and other audit-related documents for the OCC and internal/external auditors
- Assist Senior Accounting Clerk, Cost Accountant and Accounting Manager with special projects
- Maintain a strong working knowledge and in-depth understanding of financial statement preparation (Balance Sheet, Income Statements, etc.)
- Complete all mandatory and elective training, including BSA (Bank Secrecy Act) and Anti-Money laundering procedures. Maintain compliance with all appropriate rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned
- Regular, predictable attendance is an essential requirement of this position
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Advanced computer skills required; Proficient in Word, Excel, Internet navigation/research, and Outlook is expected
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards and principles
- Excellent mathematical and number crunching skills
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
