About the Department
The Learning and Teaching Enhancement (LTE) provides a wide range of services to support students and staff.
Our aim is to encourage best practice and inclusivity in Learning and Teaching across SOAS for enhanced student experience and academic practice. LTE provide a platform for the sharing, exploration and dissemination of knowledge and good learning and teaching practices from wider research and research into SOAS’ s own impact.
The department is comprised of experienced Educational Developers and Learning Design Technologists with a wealth of experience in academic teaching and learning technologies.
About the Role
The post holder will develop and deliver services, projects and initiatives to enhance learning, teaching and assessment practice and pedagogy. The department’s approach sees Learning and Teaching Enhancement as both enhancing the pedagogical practices of our staff and the learning of our students equally. The post-holder will be student-facing, coordinating, and developing services that support our learners in enhancing their learning.
The LTE department offer Study Skills support to UG and PGT students across SOAS. The Study Skills provision includes a pool of 1:1 Tutors who deliver Tutorials for SOAS students as well as a platform of asynchronous resources on Study Skills. The post holder be leading to ensure a high standard in the study skills provision offered by the LTE, managing, evaluating and improving the 1:1 Tutor provision and the asynchronous study skills platform. Project managing the communications and departmental outreach will be part of the post holder’s remit to increase the use of Tutorials and Skills for Success across SOAS. Delivering training and support the 1:1 Tutors will also be key to this role.
About you
You will need to demonstrate:
Essential
Educated to at least Master’s level, in any subject.
Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Substantial relevant experience in tutoring and/or managing study skills projects.
Ability to deliver on educational projects, ideally within Higher Education, including monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to solve problems creatively using own initiative.
Ability to generate new ideas and recommendations for change/improvement.
Strong analytical, data and problem -solving capability within a specialism or across a broad management function.
Ability to work independently, as a member of a team and with a wide range of colleagues across an institution.
Effective leadership/management skills.
Excellent pedagogic research skills (qualitative and quantitative research methods).
Knowledge of the UK Higher Education policy environment.
