Position: Student Support Specialist
Location: Attwood
Starting Date: 2022-23 SY
Work Days per Week: 5 days
Hours per Day: 8 hours
Salary: Per appropriate placement on the LSEA Hourly master agreement salary schedule
Bargaining Unit: LSEA

Qualifications Required:

1. Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
2. 3-5 years of experience developing and implementing programs within school settings.
3. 3-5 years of experience providing services to at risk students and families.
4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of students have difficulties; specifically, root causes of behaviors that interrupt student learning.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of the use of appropriate strategies and resources for reducing behaviors that place students at risk of not graduating from high school.
6. Demonstrated ability to work with students, parents/guardians, school personnel, and community members to develop and implement individual intervention strategies to increase student achievement and overall graduation rates.

7. Illustrated understanding of family, school, and community systems and collaboration between entities toward improving mental health and academic outcomes of youth and families.

8. Demonstrated ability to analyze, develop, implement, and track intervention plans and strategies and coordinate communication between building administrators, staff, and district supervisors.

9. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and coordinate school wide intervention programs.
10. Successful collaboration with district staff, administration, and students toward improving behavior.

Responsibilities:

1. Develop and oversee the implementation of a prevention and intervention program for at-risk students.
2. Create a mechanism for identification of students having student achievement difficulties in need of behavior intervention in an attempt to intervene prior to student referral for disciplinary action.
3. Establish a framework for understanding emerging problematic behaviors and intervention strategies to minimize these behaviors.
4. Develop and support school wide implementation of positive school culture initiatives
5. Work with staff to provide alternative ways in which they can deal with life situations as to minimize academically unproductive behaviors.
6. Assist the school, community, and district in planning programs that alleviate situations that may interfere with the learning process of students.
7. Implement a system of tracking student progress as they work toward their educational and interpersonal goals.
8. Develop trackable behavior intervention plans for students.
9. Coordinate services for students and families.
10. Provide classroom lessons, small group interventions, and intensive services to students.
