Position Title: Substitute teacher

The Bridgeton Public Charter School is seeking a substitute teacher.
General Description: The Substitute Teacher will manage classrooms and provide educational instruction as assigned by the principal in a regular teacher’s absence
Duties and Responsibilities
· Implement an instructional program within the classroom in a manner consistent with policies approved by the Board of trustees and aligned to State mandates
· Carry out the plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
· Execute classroom activities focusing on key concepts, desirable attitudes and values to assist students in developing important skills and personal competence
· Organize and maintain a pleasant and stimulating classroom environment for learning which provides for individual needs and differences
· Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with network policies
· Check with school administration, nurse, and substitute folder to become familiar with students that have significant health issues and or allergies and ensure that there is adequate supervision to provide for the health, welfare, and safety of all students
· Report to the school with adequate time to review lesson plans, student needs, and requirements for the day
· Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate school personnel immediately or as soon as reasonably possible
· Implement instruction and maintain an environment that recognizes and values diverse populations
· Effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs
· Adapt curriculum to meet the varying needs of all students
· Effectively utilize all technologies
· Maintain a working relationship with all members of the faculty and other personnel assigned to the school
· Update and maintain all prescribed records for such things as attendance, progress reports, report cards, discipline records, and all documents required by the Board of Trustees and make wise and discriminate use of such records
· Long term substitute teachers are required to assess and evaluate student learning by maintaining school records and student grades
· Assume other related responsibilities and duties within the context of the above major responsibilities and or illustrations of key duties as directed by school administration, central office, or the Board of Trustees
Requirements and Qualifications
· Ability to control classroom activities and create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students
· Ability to follow lesson plans and instructional activities
· Demonstrated knowledge of effective principles of teaching and learning, preferred
· Ability to function effectively in a diverse school environment
· Ability to work as a highly functioning team
· Ability to effectively communicate with teachers, administration & parents when instructed by school principal
· Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Salary/Schedule: Salary is based upon experience and qualification. This is a full-time, 10-month contract position.
Education/Experience: · Associate’s Degree required.
Must hold acceptable New Jersey certification
Candidates must be able to pass required criminal background check and provide proof of citizenship or legal status.
