Surgical Technician, Certified, OR (FT, Days)
Job description
The Surgical Technician functions as members of the surgical team in the role of scrub person, handles instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Facilitates the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Education / License / Certification:
- Holds current and active Surgical Technician Certification (CST) established by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); required or effective July 1, 2013: Persons who are not certified but are qualified to be employed as surgical technologists shall complete fifteen (15) hours of continuing education or contact hours annually to remain qualified for employment and shall submit verification of having completed such continuing education or contact hours requirements to their employers. The submission of current CST by the NBSTSA shall satisfy the CEU requirement
- BLS certification required
Experience:
- 1 year experience as a Surgical Technician preferred.
- Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to address patients, families and hospital personnel
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, ever changing environment
- Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique, knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
