SURGICAL TECHNICIAN (PRN/PT)

Under guidance/supervision of the operative surgeon, assists in the perioperative care of patients in surgery and performs duties as assigned.

***Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. We're also interested in Techs that can sew and will compensate accordingly.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Utilize acquired knowledge and skills related to perioperative patient care, procedures, and equipment in order to provide safe, individualized patient care.
• Implements safe, competent and efficient patient care within policies, procedures and standards.
• Assists in patient positioning and prepping of the surgical site
• Drapes patient
• Assists in maintaining hemostasis by direct pressure, use and application of appropriate surgical instruments for the task, placement of ties and sutures ligatures, application of chemical hemostatic agents or other measures as directed by the surgeon.
• Assist in retracting tissue
• Use of electrocautery both monopolar & bipolar
• Clamp, ligation and cutting of tissue per surgeons’ directive
• Assists in endoscopic procedures
• Preserves privacy and dignity of patients.
• Maintains patient/family confidentiality.
• Observe infection control procedures to minimize the risk of cross-contamination between surgical patients and staff. Practice universal precautions at all times.
• Assist with dressings and transfer of patient from operating room table to recovery chairs/carts.
• Help as needed with patient and accompany patient to post procedure area; when OR staff are unable to transport to the pre/post area from the OR.
• Demonstrate ability to work effectively in demanding working conditions.
• Establish and maintain open communication with co-workers, team members, and OR Manager to assist in smooth execution of the daily schedule.
• Demonstrate personal characteristics and interpersonal skills to work closely with many team members at the same time.
• Perform other site-specific duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 1 year experience Surgical Technologist
• First Assist or sewing experience is highly preferred. Must be willing to learn to sew.
• Current CPR Certification
• Certified by the national Board of Surgical Technology/Surgical Assisting

• Possess good communication skills and the ability to maintain interactive/interpersonal relationships
• Available and willingness to change hours as staffing needs require
• Adaptable to varied and quickly changing duties without requiring detailed or repeated instructions
• Must have ability to establish priorities in fulfillment of duties
• Professional demeanor
• Ability to work as a member of a team
• Ability to prioritize tasks

HOURS

The schedule will be variable. Typical shift may be 6-8 hours, 2-3 days per week: M,W,TH. During the first 30 days more hours may be required to train depending on level of competency.

Job Types: Part-time, PRN, Per diem

Pay: $24.00 - $35.00 per hour
