The Manager of Sustainability will be part of a high-performing Corporate Affairs team that works across the business to advance Novolex sustainability/ESG priorities. Needed skills for this role will include excellent data aggregation and analytical skills, as well as the ability to synthesize data for diverse audiences. The right candidate will work cross-functionally within the business and with consultants to represent Novolex enterprise and product sustainability/ESG initiatives and metrics – helping chart the course for the future of our business.

To accomplish these and related goals, this individual will help advance critical Novolex initiatives focused on greenhouse gas and waste reduction, lifecycle assessments and related sustainability/ESG reporting for multiple public and private stakeholders.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:

• GHG inventory development – experience in this area is a plus, but not required. Scope 1 and 2 data is the scope of Novolex’s public GHG reduction target - 30% by 2030. You will assist the business and sites in understanding and applying energy performance data that will help develop action plans to achieve targeted objectives
• Development of Scope 3 inventory will be on ongoing project, focusing on integration of data sources into emissions monitoring software
• LifeCycle Assessment (LCA) and Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) software management; this individual will work with New Product Development to understand product attributes and conduct product environmental analysis using a blend of primary and secondary data. Once complete, the individual will partner with marketing and sales to credibly represent the analytics associated with Novolex products and operations. This will require extensive presentation capability and the ability to use data in marketing materials
• Maintain and lead aggregation of annual sustainability data sets for Novolex sustainability report
• Reporting requests – annual Novolex sustainability report, multiple individual and customer requests, including written and data driven surveys such as CDP, EcoVadis, Supply Shift, SMAQ and more.

• Experience in climate change and/or sustainability consulting or packaging sustainability in a manufacturing environment; candidates with engineering or finance background will also be considered as long as skills can translate
• High level of capability with excel and interest/ capability to learn new software to manage data and reporting
• Internal collaboration: Build relationships and work seamlessly and collaboratively across the company’s organization. Key outcomes of collaboration will include data collection as well as ensuring accuracy and completeness and communicating clear accountabilities and timelines
• Knowledge of the packaging industry, familiarity with circular economy, climate change trends and reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, etc) are a plus, but not required
• 3-8 year experience on the quantitative/metrics side of sustainability/ESG reporting
• Deep understanding of social and environmental trends and issues, including trends and data related to circular economy, science-based target setting and other established indices for measuring and target-setting in a climate change context
• Sophisticated knowledge of the complex global landscape involving the intersection of business and corporate responsibility.
• A passion for resolving the global issues of our time and belief in the role a big company has in driving and supporting these efforts.
• The ability to negotiate and conceive/create new ideas in a high-pressure environment.
• A high degree of energy and initiative, and the ability to drive results across different functions and teams.
• Self-motivated—must have the ability to step in and make a significant and immediate impact.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including: speech and copy writing/editing, presentation/influencing and listening. Must have the ability to present to internal and external audiences
• Highest professional integrity and discretion; good common sense and sound judgment.
