Job description
Assists the classroom teacher in the implementation of a quality early childhood program in accordance with the ELC’s educational philosophy and standards of ethical conduct.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists classroom teachers as directed in the implementation of the daily program which promotes children’s physical, cognitive, language and social-emotional growth.
- Promotes learning and development, responds promptly to children’s needs and provides sensitive and nurturing care.
- Assists in setting up an attractive, orderly classroom and maintaining a clean environment.
- Assists children with their daily routines, as needed.
- Implements a positive approach to discipline, in accordance with the Center’s policy.
- Communicates with parents at arrival and pick-up times to share information of a general nature.
- Follows the ELC’s philosophy, policies and procedures and asks for clarification or assistance when necessary.
- Notifies supervising teacher of all illnesses and injuries to children, whether major or minor.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters relating to children, families, staff and center business.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalency required.
- Some experience and knowledge of child development from birth to 12 years.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to maintain warm, positive relationships with children and adults.
- Ability to adapt to a continuously changing schedule and assist with all age groups.
- Must have the ability to move about the classroom and other areas quickly and easily. This position requires the following physical activities related to the caring for children, including infants and toddlers: crouching, stooping, reaching, and grasping.
- This position is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions as educational activities occur both inside and outside.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
