The Teacher Coach/Mentor Coordinator is responsible for supporting new and returning LFDCS teachers to ensure effective instruction of all students. Responsibilities include designing and implementing an effective Mentoring and Induction program and ongoing professional development for staff. The Teacher Coach/Mentor Coordinator works collaboratively with Heads of School to identify teachers in need of support and offers in-depth coaching including modeling of best practices, one-on-one sessions and access to exemplar teacher lessons.RESPONSIBILITIES: Mentoring and Induction ProgramParticipate yearly in a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE)-sponsored lead mentor training or refresher courseLead a training for all new and returning mentors and provide ongoing professional development for mentors throughout the yearDesign and annually revise a mentor handbook to be referenced throughout the yearDevelop a calendar of regular mentor/mentee meetings and topics for mentorsIdentify topics and provide corresponding resources for mentors to utilizeConduct an annual review of the Mentor and Induction Program and present these findings to the School BoardOnboarding of New TeachersDesign and implement a three-day new teacher orientation in August before the all staff in-service weekDevelop a plan to orient and support new teachers who join LFDCS during the school year, including modeling and co-teaching during their onboarding periodProvide, in partnership with the Digital Instructor, all new teachers with a guidebook of online programs being used and all log-in information to applicationsInstructional Leadership and CoachingPlan and implement an observation schedule of all new teachers to identify areas of needProvide feedback and coaching to new teachers and those teachers identified by the Heads of School as needing additional supportModel best practices for instruction including differentiation, classroom management and student engagement strategiesSupport teachers in writing cohesive and standards-aligned lesson plansCollaborate with the Digital Instructor to ensure integration of instructional technology to enhance lessonsUtilize MAP data to support teachers in differentiating their instruction and utilizing Needs-Based Groups effectively
