Summary of Position:

In alignment with the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment, update, develop and deploy innovative CTE programming and professional development in support of Perkins V (Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act) programs of study, essential knowledge and career skill development, and CTE community stakeholder engagement. He/she will also promote the expansion of applied and experiential learning opportunities for MPS students and staff to include technology integration, distance learning and virtual simulations in support of existing CTE programming across the district. This position is funded by the Perkins V grant.


Position Functions, Duties, Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of the MPS Career and Technical Education programs in grades 6-12 in alignment with the secondary requirements for a Minnesota State-Recognized Program of Study User Guide.

  • Increase online learning opportunities within MPS CTE programs of study.

  • In coordination with multiple partners, develop, support and sustain instructional models which integrate science, technology, engineering, math leading to increased student participation and concentrators in CTE programs of study.

  • Collaborate with curriculum writers to develop and vet units of study and career focused learning opportunities to develop credit equivalencies as outlined in Minnesota Statute 120B.024 Subd. 2 Credit equivalencies.

  • Support innovative strategies to grow and sustain career path opportunities leading to increased student participation in career exploration opportunities.

  • Serve as a liaison between MPS, community partners, post-secondary schools, informal education organizations, businesses, professional organizations, and foundations by playing an active role in advocating for, maintaining and deepening collaborative relationships.

  • Design and lead professional development associated with career and technical education / career readiness for teachers, administrators, and community partners.

  • Assist efforts to increase non-traditional student concentrators in Perkins V funded programs of study.

  • Assist in program evaluation and reporting efforts for the Perkins V: Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act grant and the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment as needed.

  • Increase community awareness of MPS STEM / CTE career readiness programming in grades 6-12.

  • Have working knowledge and experience implementing Minnesota State Academic Standards.

  • May utilize extended time throughout the year to support career readiness programming.

  • Ability to lift and transport curriculum related materials as well as travel between building sites and to conferences/meetings hosted at various sites around the metro.

  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Career & Technical Education (CTE) or Secondary education with experience in educational technology integration.

  • Advanced degree in education preferred.

  • Coursework/training in curriculum design and delivery, formative assessment, and professional development.

  • If the candidate does not currently have a Minnesota CTE license they must agree to complete required coursework or portfolio submission within the first 12 months of employment in this position and apply for CTE license through the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB).


Experience

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Minnesota’s secondary requirements for a Career and Technical Education State-Recognized Program of Study.

  • At least five years experience teaching a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds or industry-related career development experience.

  • Demonstrates effective leadership and coaching skills in working with students and adults

  • Experience with curriculum development, analysis and delivery using effective formative assessment strategies related to work-based learning, career readiness, and 21st century foundational academic and technical skills

  • Experience preferred in planning, facilitating, and evaluating high-quality professional development to adults

  • Strong facilitation, leadership, and communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Ability to work creatively on projects both independently and collaboratively with teams.

  • Ability to synthesize ideas, communicate clearly and succinctly, and design strategies for communicating effectively with internal and external audiences.

  • Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets, databases and use a variety of other current tools of instructional technology.
