ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

For more than two decades, LA Promise Fund has uplifted schools, students and families in South LA to ensure more Black and Latinx students are prepared for success in college, career, and life. Today, we accomplish this goal as an education management organization that runs two South LA charter schools and coordinates high impact educational enrichment programming to ensure students are college and career bound. Russell Westbrook Why Not? Middle and High Schools advance a college-prep culture and integrated digital media arts-themed education, with significant parent engagement, socio-emotional supports, and leadership development.


Simultaneously, LA Promise Fund works with schools County-wide to offer a portfolio of programs that foster motivated, engaged, and directed students poised for academic, professional, and personal success. Currently, these regional programs include a focus on female empowerment, STEM, media arts, college readiness, career exposure and work-based-learning, school improvement design, and parent engagement. POSITION SUMMARY

LA Promise Fund’s ArtsMatter program provides support to schools across Los Angeles in arts education and arts integration practices. ArtsMatter implements a suite of programs that promote learning in Media Arts in schools in South Los Angeles. The recipient of grants from the U.S. Department of Education and the California Arts Council, ArtsMatter implements a suite of programs that promotes learning in Media Arts in schools in South Los Angeles.


Reporting to the Associate Director of Arts Programs and working closely with the grant’s cohort of teachers, Teaching Artists will provide classroom instruction and modeling of processes; provide training to teachers in media arts practices; support curriculum development. This is a full-time, exempt position grant-funded through June 2026.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


Administrative

  • Complete grant compliance tasks including the reporting of service delivery hours, documentation of student artwork, and the collection of programmatic data.

Classroom Instruction and Teacher Development

  • Lead arts-based instruction in classrooms utilizing appropriate curriculum and technology to promote creative and academic advancements in students.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching of teachers to support their ability to gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to deliver and eventually design new media arts lesson plans.
  • Build teachers’ confidence in using media arts-based strategies (and the arts more generally) across the curriculum through a gradual release model involving teaching, co-teaching, and providing observational feedback.
  • Lead PD session(s) for teacher cohort.

Curriculum Creation

  • Collaborate with ArtsMatter staff to create effective classroom models to facilitate curriculum based on student learning and interaction with the materials in the classroom.
  • Oversee the alignment of Media ArtsMatter curriculum with practical media arts solutions to support student learning in the classroom.
    • Support the development of grade level-appropriate media arts knowledge, skills, and vocabulary needed to create, produce, respond to, and make connections between media artworks based on classroom interaction
  • Collaborate with project evaluators to evaluate student and teacher data; create program modifications based on data and research.

Other duties as assigned but not limited to, Community and Outreach Events.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS


Experience

  • 3+ years working in or around K-12 education, adult learning, and/or the arts, preferably within Los Angeles County
  • Portfolio or links to professional work or experience in media arts
  • Teaching experience required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess a range of competencies in one or more of the following media arts fields: Film, Animation, Photography, Graphic Design
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred; at a minimum, the ability to understand and to make oneself understood to Spanish speaking students.
  • Flexibility and willingness to teach multiple media arts content fields
  • Ability to work with and understand the needs of public and public charter school teachers
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications for administrative tasks

  • Must clear a LiveScan criminal background check
  • Must clear a TB Risk Assessment
  • Must complete Mandated Reporter training
