The Schools of Life and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, and Pharmacy operate across the Joseph Banks Laboratories (JBL), Minster House and Isaac Newton Building, which house research and training facilities for the Schools and are complemented by teaching laboratories in the purpose-built Janet Lane-Claypon (JLC) Building. In addition, the Foundation Studies Centre within the College of Science, also supports students within the Schools of Mathematics and Physics, and Engineering and aims to prepare students for degree-level study across all these disciplines, by equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in science, healthcare or engineering related subjects.

The JBL Schools Technical Team and Science Foundation technicians support the delivery of practical teaching and training in these fields and support research for the students and staff within the University.

Currently we have a vacancy for a Technician Assistant with broad scientific experience in the biological, chemical and physical sciences to integrate across a variety of teams, primarily to support our practical teaching activities across these teams and disciplines as outlined above.

You will demonstrate a dedication to working within multidisciplinary teams and an enthusiasm for success. Where applicable training in specific techniques and processes will form part of your personal development plan.

  • have a scientific background with relevant experience of working in a laboratory setting
  • demonstrate practical experience of a variety of standard scientific techniques that underpin biological, chemical, and physical sciences
  • have a professional and customer focussed manner
  • have an enthusiastic and flexible approach to work, working flexibly across School buildings as appropriate
  • have the potential to further develop your skills across the broad spectrum of attributes required for a technical role
