The Brandeis University TRiO Upward Bound Program is a year-round college-preparatory program. Our mission is to assist low-income, first-generation college bound high school students in successful completion of secondary education and prepare them academically and socially for enrollment and completion of higher education. Our program is funded to serve 60 high school students attending Waltham High School.
The Upward Bound Summer program is a 6-week day program hosted on campus at Brandeis University that is meant to simulate the college experience for our students. Our Lead Teacher/ Summer Instructor Coordinator will help achieve this goal by providing training, supervision, and curriculum development guidance to our team of Summer Instructors.
Compensation is $40 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design a curriculum that matches and supports Upward Bound’s teaching and learning goals, yearly theme, and is responsive to Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  • Assist in refining written materials for pedagogy evaluation, and other documents needed for program expansion.
  • Work with the Program Director and teaching team to develop and support curricular innovation and cultural competency in the classroom
  • Lead training for team of Summer Instructors to help them develop 6-week project based curriculum
  • Incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy, student-centered learning, and multicultural perspectives.
  • Implement an assessment/evaluation system for determining student success on assignments, culminating projects, class participation, and the course as a whole
Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in related content area
  • Massachusetts Teacher Licensure Required
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in related field/content area
  • Previous experience working with underserved student populations, educational opportunity programs, and bi-lingual ability preferred
