Tooling Engineer
Position Summary: The T&E Engineer is in charge of the complete development of tools, equipment and associated processes to reach targets of Quality, Cost, Delivery within requirements and to deliver components according to drawings/specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Build, update & monitor the complete timing plan for tools, equipment and associated processes to reach, Tooling & Equipment transfer to plant, MPT and SOP on time and right first time.
- Build, update & monitor the progress of tool & process convergence to targets and report progress.
- Defines tools, equipment & associated process specificities for the program taking into considerations standard targets.
- In case of refurbished equipment, define the specifications and follow-up the refurbishment executed by the plant
- Provide input for simplification of product to reach reliable tool, equipment and associated process definition.
- Provide technical support to the supplier RFQ process and tool makers / equipment providers selection process.
- Validate the supplier offer from technical point of view.
- Commit to necessary steps to kick off tool & equipment (SNC, Kick Off, Pre Study, Study).
- Define process parameters according to product key characteristics
- Provide inputs for PFMEA related to his own Tool, Equipment and processes.
- Write the purchase requisition for Tooling
- Liaise between program, plant & toolmaker to ensure tuning & implementation of product modification.
- Supporting the coordination of all necessary material (availability of raw material, packaging & checking fixtures …) are in place to perform the trials in the best conditions
- If possible, to pre-validate the T&E, process at application Pilot Plant, provide the necessary inputs through standard documentation.
- Organize and perform trials in the closest serial life conditions
- Identify gaps to serial life conditions and major risks impacting the defined targets, set-up a convergence plan
- Track progress and convergence of all defined targets (cycle time, scrap rate, dimensions …) to keep Quality, Cost, Delivery in line with the initial business plan.
- Consolidate all actions in PDCA template & implement all actions defined after each trial to reach Quality, Cost, Delivery in line with initial plan
- Liaise between program, plant & toolmaker / equipment provider to ensure tuning & implementation of product modification.
- In charge of the pre-acceptance of Tool & Equipment at tool suppliers:Organize production trials performed at suppliers
Ensure all targets checks done at production trials
Ensure production trials performed before tool / equipment transfers from toolmaker/ equipment provider to plant including scrap level and cycle time
- Ensure the proper transfer of the Tooling & Equipment from suppliers to the plants:Provide the necessary information regarding Tooling & Equipment to Logistics to ensure proper transportation set-up
Transfer of proper documentation to the plant together with the Tool & Equipment
Check with the plant good preparation of the Tooling & Equipment reception and installation into the plants (e.g. internal transportation inside the plants if needed)
- In charge of the pre-acceptance of Tool & Equipment at the plant (until green MPT):Support and follow production trials performed at plant
Support plant to perform all targets checks at production trials (Production Trials, Mass Production Trials and customer R@R at plant) and track progress of all defined targets (cycle time, scrap rate, dimensions …)
Define & lead the convergence plan in case of target gaps
- Follow-up the final acceptance of Tooling & Equipment at the plant (until SOP):Monitors T&E and associated process performance in the plant through the daily KPIs reported by the plant
Ensure conformity of the produced part versus the product specifications, through process parameters optimization.
Support appearance approval for the engineering team (on virgin and aged parts).
Follow-up convergence plan until the final acceptance
- Capitalize on program experience by:Updating and finalizing the program documentation related to Tooling, Equipment and associated processes
Raising and recording _Lessons Learned
Raise proposition for standards update_ or creation
- Tool, Equipment and Process target achievement (FCP document)
- Tool & Equipment AQP, Tuning Costs, Capex targets – cross-check with PML
- Support design to cost approach and design to manufacture approach
- Anticipate & manage the necessary support in terms of expertise or simulation when needed (PLTE (ex GTS), CAE, Purchasing, Logistics, Program, PML, PDL)
- Receives support within his Technology Engineering Domain & ExpertsCapitalizes experience on the development through lessons learnt process within his Technology Engineering Domain
Product and Design Engineering for simultaneous engineering process to achieve FES performance required
ISPS & PML for input to dimension facilities (IMM size, cycle time, capacity)
IPM / IPE from plants to include plant requirements into the specifications and get the right support during the launch phase in the plant.
T&E Purchasing for Supplier management
Quality for product performance (dimensions and appearance)
- Propose continuous improvement ideas in business efficiency and cost reduction
- Capitalizes on knowledge and shares best practices / lessons learned across organization and within the site
- Travel to support the launch of production in the Plant.
- Support the leadership and commitment from top management according to the NAO environmental policy and ISO 14001.

Authorities:
- Defines tool and equipment specifications for his/her scope of work
- Negotiates technical requirements with tool or equipment supplier
- Ensures tools/equipment meet FIS standards, or documents any needed deviations
- Provides signoff on T&E Acceptance, according to development process
- Confirm process definition and related KCC to converge to IBP targets
Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge in project management process
- Knowledge of 7 Quality Basics.
- Knowledge of FES
- Result oriented with strong written and oral communication skills
