- Seasonal position for 8 months: April through November
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:
- Assist or lead on routine maintenance of trails and County Greenway through unincorporated Clear Creek County and the municipalities of Silver Plume, Georgetown, Empire, and Idaho Springs, determining methods and schedule, and reviewing weekly and daily operations with the manager.
- Assist in the development of the weekly maintenance plan.
- Perform a full range of trail maintenance duties, including trimming, weed mitigation, erosion control, washout repairs, signage installation, fallen tree removal, debris removal, and trash removal.
- Trim and prune bushes, trees, etc., to provide clearance of sidewalks, signs, and trail trackers.
- Operate a full range of maintenance equipment, including blowers, chain saws, tractors, and hand and power tools, maintain tools and equipment and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Remove fallen trees, stumps, limbs, and related debris from storm damage.
- Patrol trails, identify maintenance needs and safety hazards, and report needs to appropriate staff.
- Deal courteously and tactfully with the public in response to inquiries and complaints; provide information on the rules of the area and trails.
- Remove debris and trash left along trail areas.
- Identify equipment needs for each assigned project. Determine appropriate methods, sequences and layout of work detail.
- Provide managerial leadership and supervision, including assisting staff in resolving complex issues.
- Manage work of consultants and volunteers to ensure work is completed in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Promote a positive can-do atmosphere in division operations. Promote innovation and creativity in all facets of trail operations. Create an environment where division employees feel empowered and collaborative - problem solving is encouraged.
- Provide exceptional customer service for our citizens and maintain effective working relationship with internal and external customers.
- Report license plate numbers of illegally parked vehicles along County roads or illegal motorized type vehicles on passive recreation trails. Use cell phone to photo.
- Maintain a characteristics inventory of all trails repaired or enhanced.
- Work with the towns as needed to assist or combine efforts on similar items on town sections as determined by the County Manager;
- Supervise temporary help from outside sources including inmate workers, and volunteers;
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Requires some grounds maintenance or related experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Working knowledge of the principles and procedures in the design, construction, and maintenance of trails;
- Working knowledge of basic environmental best practices and Leave no trace principles

- Able to maintain courteous and effective working relationships with the public, County department, subordinates, co-workers, and other agencies;

- Report status of ongoing projects to supervisor on timely basis;
- Work independently and execute judgment appropriately;
- Technical Skills
- Preventative maintenance requirements for all tools and equipment;
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and Polaris Brutus;
- The ability to operate County vehicles, power tools including chain saws, drills, hand tools including axes, rakes, Pulaski’s, pick mattocks, and others;
- Basic methods, techniques, and tools used in the construction and maintenance of trails, parks, and related recreational areas;
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a valid Colorado motor vehicle driver’s license
- Must pass a background check: Criminal and Traffic
- Conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment
- Must pass a drug test
- Must be 18 years or older to operate most equipment
- Required legal authorization to work - United States citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- Work is primarily performed outdoors. Exposure to: noise from a variety of equipment, confined workspace, dust, and equipment hazards. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Thursday. Employees in this position are exposed to various climatic conditions such as cold, heat, sun, wind, rain, dust, and snow.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; talk and hear; use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; twist and turn the upper body; stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to drive a vehicle including a pickup truck, trailer loading, and a Polaris Brutus maintenance vehicle. Physical demands are described as high (exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, adjust focus, color vision, and peripheral vision.
SUPERVISION:
- Supervision and guidance for three Trail Technicians.
- Responsible for team compliance with County policies and procedures.
- Proven understanding and successful implementation of supervisory principles and practices; demonstrated ability to guide, direct and motivate.
- Oversees department personnel practices; recommends staff, provides training, evaluates performance, and develops and monitors corrective action plans.
