The Challenge
We're looking for a Transportation Supervisor to join our Forsyth County Roadside Environmental team.

In this role you will:

  • Plan, organize, and schedule work activities, materials, and equipment needs for our Roadside Environmental crews.
  • Lead pesticide applications, seeding & mulching, tree pruning/removal, and the installation and maintenance of plant beds & the NC Wildflower Program throughout Division 9.
  • Ensure pesticide applications adhere to NCDA Pesticide rules and regulations and established NCDOT policies and procedures.
  • Assist management with the counsel and discipline of employees.
  • Maintain accurate FR-11’s (recording work hours, equipment hours, inventory used, location & work accomplished).
  • Adjust work assignments.
  • Train employees on-the-job.
  • Perform daily safety meetings with crews.
  • Conduct team member performance reviews.
  • Routinely determine materials, techniques, and tools to accomplish standard work assignments.
  • Assist senior supervisors with investigating and answering concerns from the public and recommend solutions.

What You Bring

  • Experience supervising crews performing landscape functions related to erosion control, landscape installation, and landscape bed maintenance.
  • Operating experience using equipment designed for all aspects of landscape operations.
  • Training experience instructing employees on proper equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Experience applying pesticides to highway rights-of-way by both mechanical and hand.
  • Record keeping experience, including tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of material used.
  • Ability to supervise staff and interpret/apply personnel policies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all staff, the public, other government agencies, and contractors.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, keep accurate records, and use a computer.
  • Agility to climb, bend, walk, and operate equipment on uneven terrain and slopes.
  • Commercial Drivers License (Note: If you don't have this, you can get it through our on the job training program within 360 days of hire).

Education & Experience

  • High School/GED diploma, and
  • 6+ years of progressive experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Notes

  • An NCDA&CS Pesticide License with appropriate endorsements is required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • We may require work during non-traditional work hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and times of emergency.
  • This position is subject to emergency call back, scheduled night work, and work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
  • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and will conduct a background check with your previous employers for the past 2 years for controlled substance/alcohol testing.
  • You will be exposed to all types of weather conditions.
