Weatherization Energy Auditor


Summary Purpose for the Position

To inspect and collect energy audit information of client’s homes, perform diagnostic testing, complete the energy modeling software, provide work specifications, cost estimates and install measures for Weatherization program projects. Provide assistance to ensure the quality control and program production requirements.


Requirements (Education, Experience, Certification, Knowledge, Skill)

Position requires either an Associate degree plus one year experience, or 4 to 5 years of relevant training and experience in home energy conservation, remodeling, construction, rehabilitation, or BPI certification and a comprehensive understanding of housing systems and their operation. Basic computer competency required. Must be able to articulate and describe housing deficiencies, program guidelines and other available housing services. Must be able to attend assigned conferences, seminars and classes in order to maintain skills current and upgraded. Must understand building construction and systems and have ability to evaluate problems and suggest repairs.


Position Responsibilities

Has daily contact with information of clients being served by the Weatherization program.

Interviews homeowner to determine existing housing conditions and identify areas for energy improvements.

Inspect and document building elements and perform diagnostic testing to establish home energy performance along with any Health and Safety concerns.

Offer homeowner options or suggestions to understand their building performance and improve energy conservation.

Interpret information and complete required reporting forms, enter data into the various computer software programs for the energy model and justify areas for improvements.

Determines which steps, methods and procedures from several prescribed options are appropriate for the home to successfully complete the project.

Can recommend expenditures within the budget allowances provided per job and program.

Assigned areas such as inspections, work scope development, cost estimates and construction supervision, in which independent discretion is required subject to review.

Compliance of program regulations is required within the context of the program guidelines.

Additional duties related to department programs may be assigned as necessary.


Working Conditions/Environment

There is moderate risk of injury or potential exposure to agents such as asbestos, lead based paints, radon or other building related toxins.

The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully

perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Sit – up to 6 hours in a regular workday
  • Stand – 4 - 6 hours in a regular workday
  • Climb – 1 – 2 hours in a regular workday (includes stairways)
  • Lift up to 40 pounds as needed


Transportation Requirement

Position requires automobile, driver’s license and insurance.
