Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, the Welding Supervisor will oversee the Welding department including process and procedure improvement activities, monitor employee output, identify issues in efficiency, solve problems, and put improvements into practice. This position will provide direction to the shop floor employees, ensure employees receive the proper training, evaluate employees’ compliance with company policies and standards, as well as ensure safety, efficiency, quality and delivery.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare operational schedules and welding activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
- Interpret specifications and job orders to workers and assign duties.
- Oversee the setup and programming of welding equipment.
- Inspect work to maintain specified standards and quality.
- Ensures quality and manufacturing metrics are established (yield & efficiencies) and productivity targets are met.
- Ensures company policies, quality procedures and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) are understood and followed by employees.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment at all times by educating employees and enforcing Safety policies.
- Identifies training needs and coordinates training in an organized and strategic fashion assuring flexibility and maintaining a balanced and smooth product flow.
- Ensures that all production paperwork is completed on a timely basis.
Skills & Specifications
- In-depth understanding and working knowledge of welding, including MIG, TIG, Spot, and Robotic technology.
- Ability to read and understand production drawings, good knowledge of measuring tools and product tolerances.
- Ability to inspect and approve work orders for conformance to specifications and blueprints and adjust accordingly to correct errors.
- Strong organizational skills, including planning, scheduling, prioritizing and record-keeping.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills at all levels.
- Organized and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to effectively use ERP software, Microsoft Office, Internet, and tools commonly found in the office and production environment.
Education & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Supervising experience in the Metal Forming and Fabrication industry.
- Working knowledge and proficiency in ISO quality systems fundamentals and Lean manufacturing techniques.
- Strong technical background that includes knowledge of sheet metal fabricating processes and equipment.
- Knowledge of various metals (CRS, HRS, Stainless, Aluminum).
- High School Graduate, Associates Degree preferred.
