Job Summary
The Accommodation Coordinator position is a full-time, professional position in the Office of Disability Resources (ODR) at Drexel University. The Accommodation Coordinator of the Office of Disability Resources assists the Assistant Director, Student Accommodations in interpreting medical documentation, determining and providing reasonable accommodations for qualified students with disabilities and creating their Accommodation Verification Letters, thus facilitating equal access to programs, services, and facilities for all Drexel University campuses. The Accommodation Coordinator also educates students about how to use their approved accommodations and refers students to on and off-campus resources.
Essential Functions
- Reviews documentation and approves reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Meets with students who have disabilities to discuss the impact of their condition on their ability to fully participate in the educational experience at Drexel in order to determine reasonable accommodations.
- Communicates with students, parents, and campus partners to establish or maintain reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Makes appropriate referrals and proposes additional supports to students with disabilities.
- Assists with ODR outreach and open house events, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Disability Resources, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with people with disabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to problem solve with colleagues and assist individual faculty and staff in the provision of accommodations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Disability Resources, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Psychology or a related field.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting.
- Working knowledge of Section 504 and the ADAAA, as it applies to postsecondary education.
