The pay range listed above reflects the FULL pay range for this position. The expected ENTRY pay range is $20.00 to $24.33 per hour, based on qualifying experience and equity within Maricopa County. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position
Do you enjoy interacting with members of our community and their furry friends?
As an Animal Services Officer, you will be responsible for the humane capture and intake of stray animals, educating community members on responsible pet ownership, and enforcing animal control laws and ordinances. We will look to you to enhance and maintain positive relationships with animal welfare, law enforcement, and other related personnel and agencies within Maricopa County.

We Require
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Arizona driver's license, upon hire
-
One year of customer service work experience explaining rules and regulations to the public OR one year of law enforcement experience OR one year of animal-related work experience handling and caring for dogs and cats in a kennel facility, veterinary clinic, or animal hospital OR completion of at least 30-semester (45 quarter) hours of post-secondary education that includes a minimum of 12 units related to veterinary services, animal handling, animal control, or criminal justice

Job Contributions
-
Enforce animal control laws and ordinances, ensure humane treatment of animals, and examine animal licenses and rabies vaccination documents
-
Patrol assigned areas to ensure compliance with animal control regulations, conduct in-depth investigations of complaints/reports of animal-related violations, and respond to routine/emergency animal control calls
-
Serve as a resource for citizens, the veterinary community, and local authorities for questions regarding animal-related concerns through community outreach
-
Locate, catch, contain, transport, and impound stray animals, using a variety of safe/humane measures, and complete animal intake information
-
Issue verbal/written warnings, compliance notices, and summons to violators
-
Gather evidence for animal control cases, maintain legal chain of custody for evidence, present evidence in court, and testify as needed
-
Identify sick/diseased animals, administer first aid, medications, or other treatments, take precautions to prevent the spread of disease, and recommend veterinarian care
-
Perform daily safety pre- and post-use inspection of assigned vehicles and ensure maintenance
-
Assist with daily cleaning duties, perform inventory checks on supplies/equipment, and care for animals in our facilities
Working Conditions
-
Animal shelter and field environment working in and outdoors, with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, animal waste and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, anesthetic gases, and zoonotic diseases
-
Ability to work as early as 5 am and as late as 10 pm, as well as weekends and holidays
-
Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, squat, bend, stoop, stand, and walk on various surfaces, including slippery, uneven, and rough
-
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
