Department of Neurology - Research Support Coordinator (Neuromuscular/Neurogenetics)
Job description
The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking a Research Support Coordinator to support both the Neurogenetics team, as well as the International Neuropathies Consortium (INC) Project Manager. This position will focus on research-related projects and post-award administration of grants, including onboarding new sites, arranging training for new investigators, and working with the DMCC to get protocols activated and retrieve data.
Additionally, the Coordinator will perform administrative duties related to genetic counseling and will interact with patients and families with Inherited Peripheral Neuropathies, also collectively referred to as Charcot Marie Tooth Disease (CMT). The position will work with health care providers, researchers, and genetic counselors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage overall site coordination and activation as related to the INC project
- Assist INC Project Manager in preparing for grant cycles.
- Participate in research operations for INC studies including subject recruitment, data acquisition, data management, and human subject application submissions through the Institutional Review Board (IRB)
- Review proposals, ensure completeness, and route proposals through proper channels
- May handle purchases of supplies and materials, travel-related costs, and reconciliation of statements as associated with the Neurogenetics team
- Assist the Neurogenetics team in monitoring contract/grant terms and compliances in accordance with University policies and state and federal regulations
- Prepare and provide preparatory or follow-up communications with patients and families attending the UI CMT Clinic, their referring providers, and genetic testing laboratories
- Coordinate and arrange for conference calls among the INC
- Communicate with research laboratories regarding sample coordination and research testing
- Coordinate/Organize and Advertise the annual Neurogenetics Symposium hosted by the Department of Neurology, including communication with speakers, registrants, catering, and vendors
Percent of Time: 100%
Pay Grade: 3A - https://hr.uiowa.edu/ps-pay-structure-future
Supervision Received: Supervision is received from the Primary Investigator, Dr. Michael Shy, and Neurology Genetic Counselors
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent organizational skills and must be reliable and efficient with time management
- Excellent interpersonal skills including an ability to communicate (written and verbally) effectively with the clinical care team, patients/families, and to assist with project researchers
- Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of populations
- Demonstrated professional attitude in regard to motivation, cooperation, flexibility, confidentiality, ethics, and personal development
Preferred Qualifications:
- An interest in genetic counseling as a profession
- Previous experience with direct patient care and patient research
