Capital Projects Electrical Controls Technician

The WAVE Capital Projects Team is seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting Allen Bradley controls and systems, as well as installing new automation equipment. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role and be knowledgeable in electrical theory and industrial controls.

This position will report to the Capital Project Engineering Manager, who is responsible for capital project prioritization and resource management, project management leadership, innovative technology migrations, and capital strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair complex issues with Allen Bradley controls and systems.
  • Install and commission new automation equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, and other related hardware.
  • Work with engineering and maintenance personnel to diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions.
  • Use diagnostic tools to test and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Works as a member of the Capital Project Team to develop and modify control systems and wiring diagrams, engineering documentation, and instructions to support manufacturing.
  • Work with team to perform the final assembly of large production systems. Test and debug systems before final assembly.
  • Document changes made to machines, fixtures, or tooling during installation, debug, or normal operations.
  • Perform all work in a safe manner; use proper lock-out procedures during machine adjustments. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and make certain that all safety equipment is in proper working order.
  • Some travel is required. Estimated 15% as necessary; project dependent. Participate or lead machinery installations on-site.
  • Panel set-up and testing (IP addressing, I/O check-out)
  • Lead equipment build, debug and FAT in Capital Projects Assembly Area.
  • Provide technical expertise and transfer knowledge to operators/technicians, and other team members as needed.
  • Support the creation of an environment where the team achieves zero significant incidents in Environmental, Health and Safety.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and/or Training

  • 5+ years relevant experience in electrical controls and automation.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC ladder and block logic.
  • Ability to load programs or configure PLC’s/HMI’s.
  • Proficiency in FactoryTalk RS Logix 5000 and Studio 5000.
  • Functional knowledge of PLC and HMI programming, low voltage controls, three phase power distribution, vision systems, electronic sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics, and servo control.
  • Experience interfacing with robotic systems preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify complex problems and develop corrective action plan to implement solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively with little to no supervision and seek out the necessary resources to complete tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
