Fleet Manager

We are now hiring a Fleet Manager in the Roanoke, VA office.


Job duties of the Fleet Manager include:


  • Monthly driver training: keep drivers informed about new legislation, how to properly inspect their vehicles, how to record their driver logs, what to do when system goes down, safety training relevant to drivers
  • Conduct new hire driver training, to include the 90 days DOT HM training
  • Conduct ride-a longs with new drivers and annually for existing drivers
  • Conduct mock inspections with drivers to ensure they are ready for actual roadside inspections
  • Maintain and audit the driver DQ files, to ensure annual driver record pull, medical card pushed to OMV, COL expirations, drug & alcohol clearinghouse and TWIC expirations
  • Monitor driver ELD logs daily and troubleshoot any issues with vendor
  • Track and ensure the required testing is completed for company tankers
  • Inspect the fleet to ensure maintenance has been proper completed which includes any third-party maintenance requirements
  • Manage, track, and ensure all truck repairs are both timely and properly completed
  • Maintain inventory logs and provide reporting as needed
  • Negotiate, purchase, inventory, and track truck and trailer tires. Ensure company maintains proper inventory to keep all company fleet on the road
  • Work with each company facility to ensure all trucks have required documents inside the truck
  • Work with each company facility to ensure all trucks have accident package and drivers are trained on accident management
  • Manage the purchase of diesel fuel for the Roanoke facility
  • Provide monthly fuel usage reporting
  • Monitor FMCSA website regularly to check for roadside inspections
  • Evaluates potential new equipment for our fleet to ensure our driver equipment (ELD) meets the company's requirements and needs
  • Assist drivers and management with any state or federal DOT inspections as needed
  • Maintain the Driver Safety manual
  • Assist with the annual NACD audit as it pertains to the company fleet
  • Assist with maintaining the GPS tags for the fleet
  • Assist with completion of fleet property damage incident reports
  • Assist with development and implementation of SOPs pertaining to the company fleet
  • Develop, order and maintain all forms required for the company fleet
  • Manage all automated systems for fleet as requested (ELD, Tracking, Fuel Card)
  • Maintain fleet expense tracking data as requested (monthly mileage, expense) in conjunction with accounting department to assist with budgeting and capital fleet management
  • Assist with obtaining fleet licensing
  • Assist the Logistics Teams in all divisions manage best practice for route mapping, fleet resource planning for maintenance and unit exchange to ensure efficient use of the organizations fleet
  • Manage all FMCSA Challenges
  • Other duties necessary to manage, maintain and assist in the efficient management of the organization fleet


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE for the Fleet Manager position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years logistics experience required
  • 5+ years supervising and managing logistics staff required
  • A strong background in chemical distribution operations and/or chemistry preferred
  • Experience utilizing transportation software required
