Material Handler Job Description

Purpose:

Safely and efficiently coordinate and directly perform all warehouse functions, especially as they relate to moving product around the facility.

Reports to: Operations Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

Receive material. Interact effectively with truck drivers. Visually and manually inspect materials as a quality measure and reject unsuitable materials. Unload trucks and put away materials using a crane or forklift.

Move materials to and from workstations

Verify the quantity and quality of product coming in and going out.

Pull orders using crane or forklift for material handling. Load trucks.

Complete/process all required paperwork.

Properly package material to make sure it is suitable for shipping.

In addition, perform the following functions to ensure a safe and efficient shop to meet the customers needs:

Operate safely at all times and point out any possible safety concerns to the appropriate person (and a supervisor when appropriate)

Perform inventory functions including cycle count and annual physical inventory.

Maintain equipment and building and departmental housekeeping standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Training

High school diploma or GED required. Strongly prefer high school or technical shop class experience.

Experience

At least one year of successful performance in a shop environment. Previous forklift experience. Forklift certification helpful

Skills and qualifications

Must Possess:

A safety orientation

Ability to safely operate a forklift, crane, micrometer, and calipers.

Ability to visually and manually inspect materials and determine which meet Sanborn’s criteria

Ability to regularly lift 50 lbs unassisted and heavier materials with assistance.

Ability to manually manipulate materials, to include reaching above shoulders, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.

Ability to give and respond to verbal instruction while performing an activity (especially as it relates to safety.

Ability to operate machinery with hands and feet

Commitment/willingness to increase job-related knowledge and skills.

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time to meet customer’s needs

Must be able to effectively use typical or general office equipment such as a telephone, facsimile, computer and copy machine.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
