Join our team as a Human Resources Assistant or Human Resources Assistant Advanced and gain valuable experience in recruitment and selection related HR functions. This position will provide HR Assistant services to assigned areas within Division of Personnel Management's Region 1. Our Recruitment and Staffing team is responsible for providing technical assistance to employees, management and applicants on the recruitment and staffing for all Region 1 vacancies. We seek to continuously improve our recruitment strategies and work to develop innovative techniques to ensure we are able to attract and retain the most qualified applicants. Our team is composed of highly motivated, talented individuals who enjoy problem solving and having fun while doing so.

This position has the ability to work remotely up to 5 days per week but may be required to report to an office location on occasion to complete certain tasks. This position can be headquartered in Eau Claire, Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Rhinelander, Waukesha or Wisconsin Rapids.

  • Assist HR Specialists in recruitment and staffing related activities
  • Provide assistance to employees, managers and applicants regrading recruitment activities and human resource related matters
  • Ensure that HR serves as a helpful, knowledgeable and trusted resource for all employees
  • Set up and coordinate interviews for assigned areas
  • Ensure new hire paperwork is obtained and new hires are entered into the HRIS system
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is uploaded into employee personnel file
  • Maintain recruitment assessment and new hire files according to standards
  • Be a team player, pitching in wherever needed
  • Be flexible with ever changing work priorities

Salary Information


The Human Resources Assistant position is in schedule-range 81-05; Human Resources Assistant-Adv is in schedule-range 81-04. Annual salary is $49,483 to $57,200, depending on level hired and qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

If the position is filled at the HR Assistant level, the candidate will be expected to progress to the HR Assistant Advanced level in the future.

Job Details


Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

Wisconsin residency is not required. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because this position may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

All state employees must report their COVID vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information within their first two weeks of employment.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience analyzing/troubleshooting issues
  • Experience communicating with customers on issues of varying complexity
  • Experience managing multiple tasks simultaneously

In addition to having all of the above qualifications, applicants at the advanced level will have one or more of the following:

  • Formal HR training (coursework, certifications, etc.)
  • Experience working in a formal HR role (HR Assistant, HR Specialist, HR Generalist, HR Business Partner or comparable)
