The Interim Director of Student Services is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, and supervising all special education including, but not limited to, guidance and counseling, out-of-district placements, and 504 accommodations. This position is a one-year position for the 2023-2024 school year.Performance responsibilities: PROGRAM MANAGEMENT1.Supervise and coordinate special education services;2.Goal-oriented and skilled in the development and evaluation of special education programs;3.Collaborate with principals regarding supervision and evaluation of special education and guidance personnel;4.Ensure enrolled students receive appropriate special education, guidance/counseling, and school health services, which include initiating intervention strategies and performance monitoring as deemed necessary;5.Communicate with parents, community groups, and agencies;6.In collaboration with the Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment, Assistant Superintendent, and Special Education staff, plan and supervise the development of program curricula and make recommendations to the Superintendent;7.Develop and manage department budgets and application grants;8.Apply for and administer all competitive and entitlement grants attached to the Special Education Department;9.Establish/Revise procedures for the identification, educational placement, and IEP or Section 504 Accommodation Plan development for eligible students;10.Maintain special education student records as required by regulations;11.Assume responsibilities for the Special Education portion of the Coordinated Program Review, thus ensuring compliance with Special Education regulations;12.Support and collaborate with the Special Education Parent Advisory Council;13.Provide oversight of special education transportation for out-of-district and in-district students;14.Monitor billing for the Municipal Medicaid Reimbursement Program and Circuit Breaker;15.Serve as 504 Coordinator;16.Serve as Homeless Coordinator;17.Significant knowledge and experience with federal and state special education and other applicable disability and health-related laws and regulations and ensure compliance;18. Coordinate and serve as liaison with state and area social service agencies, courts, clinical personnel, and hospitals;19. Coordinate hospital tutoring;20.Serve as a Title IX complaint management facilitator;21.Manage legal matters within departmental purview with guidance from Superintendent.PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT1.Provide leadership and work effectively with principals, program coordinators, directors, and all staff to provide student programs that meet the needs of all students;2.Responsible fiscal manager with the ability to recruit and develop high-quality staff;3.Ability to inspire trust, confidence, and enthusiasm from faculty, staff, students, and the community;4.Plan and execute professional development for professional and paraprofessional staff targeting student and staff needs;5.Direct supervisor to Out of District/Early Childhood Coordinator, Early Childhood Speech-Language Pathologists; Adaptive Physical Education Teacher.GENERAL ADMINISTRATION1.Represent district on the Special Education Advisory Board of The Education Collaborative;2.Experience with diverse populations and committed to Waylands goals of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging;3.Keep current with research and evidence-based practices;4.Participate in School Committee, subcommittee, and other applicable town meetings as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools;5.Participate as active member of the Central Office Administrative Council;6.Assume other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.Terms of Employment: 1.Twelve-month position with 25 days annual leave;2.Competitive compensation package; salary commensurate with experience;3.Other conditions and benefits as negotiated in accordance with School Committee policies.The responsibilities and duties listed are illustrations of the various types of work performed.
