MEDIA GRAPHICS DESIGNER


Salary:
$40,000 annual salary


SECTION I-JOB DESCRIPTION


SUMMARY
:

Under the supervision of Director of Community Engagement or designee. Performs technical and creative support for the development of the media campaigns focusing on public health issues for the Cameron County Public Health. Develop layout and design for internet web pages, interactive media and multi-media projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Employee will accurately document all time worked.
  • Performs technical and creative support for the development of the media campaigns focusing on public health issues for the Cameron County Public Health.
  • Develop layout and design for internet web pages, interactive media and multi-media projects.
  • Works with program directors, briefing and advising them with regard to design style, format, print production and timescales of projects.
  • Implement documented approval process for all artwork prior to final print or production of project.
  • Developing concepts, graphics and layouts for product illustrations, flyers and websites.
  • Incorporate design elements such as sound, color, animation, typography and images.
  • Illustrate concept by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size, style and related aesthetic concepts through completion of project.
  • Develop design concepts by gathering information and data.
  • Designs creative concepts utilizing key public health messages to be used with promotional items.
  • Demonstrate illustrative skills with rough sketches through final design conception.
  • Be proactive in pitching ideas and designs, effectively communicating them project team.
  • Provides technical design consulting on complex projects encompassing a variety of multi-media products.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions and troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Maintain inventory, order necessary supplies and equipment needed to complete media projects.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Works with a wide range of media, including photography and computer-aided design.
  • Compiles reports involving status of projects.
  • Assists staff to meet department goals and objectives.
  • Schedule project implementation timeline.
  • Work with a wide range of media and use graphic design software
  • Think creatively and develop new design concepts, graphics and layouts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


SECTION II-JOB REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school graduation or equivalent plus two (2) years experience in graphic designing and developing media information.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Creative skills to design a variety of objects, products and materials. Knowledge and skills in web design. Knowledge of advanced design tools. Knowledge of graphic design computer programs software (Adobe, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet). Ability to effectively communicate and interpret complex and technical information. Thorough communication skills (oral, written and Spanish speaking ability). Ability to establish effective working with coworkers and representatives of other county departments and agencies. Ability to deal effectively with public. Ability to work with confidential client information. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have reliable transportation. Employees of Cameron County may be required to work during any natural disaster or emergency. Criminal background check is required for employment or continued employment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the duties of the position. If additional assistance is required, employee must request assistance prior to performing the assignment.


SECTION III-JOB DIMENSIONS


CONTACTS:

EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

Occasional contact with other health, social and educational care agencies, outside organizations. Frequent contact with clinic clientele. Communication is via telephone, written communication and face to face.

INTERNAL CONTACTS:

Utilizes tact when dealing with County employees, health, social and educational care providers, and clientele regarding operations issues. Constant contact with County Personnel. Communicating is primarily face-to-face, via telephone and through written communication.


RESPONSIBILITY:

Comply with Cameron County and Department of State Health Services rules/regulations and display a positive public image. As a Cameron County employee, the identity of every client shall be kept confidential except to the extent necessary to carry out the purpose of an investigation, hearing, or judicial proceeding.


DIFFICULTY:

Judgement is required to ensure completion of job activities as assigned by the Immediate Supervisor or designee. Uses discretion to achieve work goals. Initiative is constantly required to achieve work goals.


GUIDANCE:

As assigned by Immediate Supervisor or designee. It is the responsibility of the employee to know and maintain contact with their Immediate Supervisor or designee.


WORKING CONDITION:

Working conditions are primarily in a clinic, office, or community center.


This is not a Civil Service covered position.
